Depends. Some still have it in their 50s and some are lost. Pierce was still very good up until his last few drives.

I have to agree that drivers seem overpaid
I fully understand that they are the final stage in the process and they ultimately determine the horses success based on their drive
but if you have no horse you have no chance no matter who you are as a driver
I have lots of respect for drivers but they are making huge cash while so many others struggle
I recall way back when the initial slots program came to Ontario and purses about doubled the drivers ( and trainers) got a massive pay increase based on their 5% of a much larger number, something should have been adjusted back then
I would like to see 4% for the trainer, 3 % for the driver and 1% for the groom/caretaker , all automatic deductions
that adds up to 8% so the owners get an extra 2% back which would be welcome and help keep more in the business
