The last thing that concerns me in harness racing is drugging of horses, there are thousands of other things in the industry to be more concerned about

.when the quick buck artists took over with their chemistry sets.

I haven't lost it quite yet, but it is the chemistry sets that will push me to take my ownership money and spend it on something with a level playing field.
Drives me crazy to be beaten by a horse that you know is pumped up on some special juice.
I live for them to be caught.
Drives me crazier when they are caught, but are given a slap on the wrist.

I don't even bet on my own horses.   Too risky, never knowing what you are up against week to week.

I'm w/ you for sure.  in a lot of races, owners are racing for show dough because the top slots are covered by unfair competition.  The commissions and associations surely can look at track statistics and develop a quantifiable level that exceeds realistic  training success.  more simply put > them guys w/ them big percentages just couldn't have suddenly gotten that darned better than the rest of the paddock.

I don't think it is possible to lose my love for the game.  Maybe run out of money but not love for it.  Lack of quality drivers and race secretaries have to be the worst part of the game today though.

Chemists have replaced the mob...racing was always corrupt but now they're stealing purses instead of betting pools.

load em up all you can and have every driver on go,that would be great racing! Why anyone cares about drugs makes no sense!! Stiffs are the problem, not drugs

No one is paranoid.   There are too many chemists in the industry that make betting even more difficult than it already is.

I can't believe there are so many geniuses on here who try to sell how much smarter they are than the rest, yet here they are, still commenting instead of vacationing around the world with all their winnings.
There are a small % of betters out there that actually gamble and win long term, and none of them are on Horse Plop !!

First off, Rabbi you're a putts with a true lack of respect for our horses! Now back to the topic, the problem with our business. It begins with the people in charge of moderating our sport (judges, race secretaries, investigators, etc) and how careless they are about their jobs... Forget the fact that slot of them are crooked themselves, so in a sport run by crooks, how can the players not be!?

 Lost my love...because

lack of oversight and enforcement of rules by governing body
miracle cures and performance by some trainers.
dominance by 2 barns Burke and Takter with several entries in same race.
diminishing mutual pools.

as far as i can remember the cheaters have been cheating.  This just didnt start happening. one example would be bob farrington. It was borderline hilarious when they would claim a horse and next start they would go first over la la la 3/4 of a mile and then in the lane bye bye..

ronny marsh in the bike... auto bet...

carl porcelli another one... davino... holdeman. rucker ... etc.. now if you mean the 60s or 50s then i do not have any opinion....

What year(s)did it go from strictly pre-determined cheating..to drugged animals and pre-determined cheating?

Looking for era (5 yr. period) and possibly which track(s) did performance enhancing drugs appear?

Whe did lasix first appear?

Thanks if anyone knows, please post.
