Title: When Will We See The First Cloned Horse In Harness Racing?
Post by: Calhoun on September 09, 2018, 08:32:34 PM

i just saw on 60 Minutes that the use of Cloned Horses is allowed in Argentinian Polo.

I figure US harness racing can't be far behind.

But it will be, of course, larcenous.

I'm thinking somewhere on the back lot of a Takter farm, there is tucked away a yearling or 2 year old perfect copy clone of Always B Miki, with a phony name and phony paperwork.

It almost HAS to be true.

26.28 Prohibition Against “Cloning.”—A foal resulting from the process
known as “cloning” shall not be eligible for registration.

I just watched it too.  With cloning, there's opportunity to improve the breed.  It assumes the best has already been achieved and all you can do is copy it. Glad it's not allowed.

Would be interesting if some of the great geldings would be cloned for breeding.
Foiled Again comes to mind.

Not a clone but I heard that earlier this year Hannelore Hanover was supposed to be bred to Southwind Frank and then the embryo transfer would enable a surrogate mare to carry the foal so Hannelore Hanover could return to the racetrack. Does anyone know if this was successful?

That 60 minutes show was actually a repeat. Saw it last year I think. Still, very interesting.

Clone Niatross so you can see that as great as he was he would be about a $20,000 claimer today.  Bret Hanover would be a $2,500 claimer  etc etc
