A lot of Race horses are not happy if they are not racing or at least kept active, i have one like that and it is very hard to keep him happy , he gets bored fast and hates being turned out, the purse is good and the track is kept in good shape year around, everyone should not be 'speechless', the horse probably wants to race, he is not going to be raced hard, it's not a big deal...

Celina, OH --- This Sunday (Aug. 12), harness racing fans in western Ohio will be treated to a visit from greatness when harness racing's all-time leading money winner of over $7.5 million, Foiled Again, will take part in the $10,000 Trent Bates Memorial Free-For-All at the Mercer County Fair in Celina, Ohio.
The 14-year-old war horse, a winner of 100 races lifetime in his 12 years of racing, has drawn post two in the eight-horse race. Chris Page is listed to drive Foiled Again for trainer Ron Burke.
He has some formidable opposition to contend with, such as Don't Say Goodby, who has won this year in 1:50.4, Hunchie (1:51.1), Mystical Rock (1:51.3) and Snowball's Romeo, who went a stealth mile of 1:49.4 at Miami Valley in late April.
Post time for the 13-race card, which also features Western Ohio Colt Racing Association action, is 12:30 p.m.

The horse wants no part of racing. His heart was ripped out 3 years ago and he is just a 14 year old suck along non trying horse.....very sad.

They should go see him at a retired horse home. It's a sin and a shame to tarnish(if you could ever call a burke horse untarnished)his reputation by getting beat by very mediocre horses badly. Those people who see him race now will wonder what the fuss is all about. He's cooked. Maybe Burke should send him on a tour of ALL of the fairs and enter him in the FFAs. MAYBE he could beat them. People talk about how horses know when they win(and I'm one of them), then what about when they lose? NO reason for that horse to ever feel like a loser.

Celina, OH --- When the field for the $10,000 Trent Bates Memorial at the 166th Mercer County Fair stepped out onto the track there was an expansive and excited assemblage that watched in awe. A lot in attendance had gone by Horse Barn No. 1 where Foiled Again had graciously held court before the race and now he was rigged and ready for the battle.
As announcer Doug Ballinger introduced the eight horses and their lifetime achievements, most eyes in the overflow crowd were on the No. 2 horse: Foiled Again. There had never been such an animal that had appeared at Mercer and, for that matter, nowhere else. His program statics are eye-popping: this was his 317th lifetime start, 100 lifetime wins with 68 seconds and 46 thirds, with $7,587,593 earned in his 12 years against the toughest competition in the sport.
Catch-driver Chris Page scored Ron Burke's masterpiece in front of the packed tarmac and brought the two-time Horse of the Year closer for them to see. Babe Ruth. Ted Williams. Joe Dimaggio. Stan Musial. Foiled Again.
Hunchie was all alone at the finish in a new all-time track record of 1:54.
And when the horses lined up behind the starting gate the fans pressed against the fence two, three deep from the seven-eighths to well past the wire in hopes of seeing another notch in the old man's bat handle.
A mile to remember was as promised when catch-driver Trevor Smith shot Hunchie straight to the top with a quarter in :26 and played run and hide, catch me if you can with Fred Reed's 8-year-old by No Pan Intended, another veteran with more than 200 starts and more than $275,000 under his belt. Foiled Again and Page sat a distant second as Smith sent Hunchie down the road to a half in :55.
When the Vince Hanna-trainee clipped the three-quarters on top by 10 lengths, most expected him to come back to the pack but Smith kept him rolling. He was all alone at the finish in a new all-time track record of 1:54 that shattered the previous one of 1:56.2 held by Twinspeak and Jack Dailey. Mystical Rock (Cameron McCown) got up for second over Foiled Again.

He just won Best of Show in the Standardbred class, out of 18. with AshleyTeatrick, over the weekend.
Ashley is doing great things with him. He has a very good life.
WHATS REALLY SAD TO SEE IS THAT IN ORDER FOR A HORSE TO HAVE A DECENT RETIREMENT, HE HAS TO HAVE EARNED ALOT OF MONEY, FOR THE MOST PART AT LEAST. why. the windsor me fair grandstand seats are all sold out in advance for this. they have a huge front apron there so they will be able to handle the overflow crowd. the problem will be parking and they will run short of programs but said they will print free program page for that race. they are putting together a stellar undercard for this historic day which is always well attended. be there.

Granted, it was a class/race written solely for him, he still blasted out of the gate, had to settle for the 3 hole. Then grind first over against a stubborn foe. There were actually a couple horses in there that had made 40k and 70k this year. He went a big trip for any horse. Let alone a 14 year old. He’s a treasure.

I don't understand this logic. If he were up against the top horses in the country, i could see your point. These past 4 months or so have been all for the fans. racing at fairs and small venues so, people can pay tribute to the worlds greatest earning harness horse. I think Burke and company are doing a great service to the game.
