Title: NY takes a pass this year on sports betting.
Post by: horses first on July 12, 2018, 06:46:28 PM
Wednesday deadline came and went with legislators failing to come up with a new sports betting bill for framework on legalization and regulation. May not be until Jan of 2019 that a new bill comes around.

Bingo. No way they were going to miss out on a year of political donations and lobbying clout.

Meanwhile the commercial casinos will have sports betting all to themselves.  Tioga, del Lago, RW Catskill and Rivers at the Crackhouse will all be up and running soon.

Not if the state doesn't have licensing in place they won't...

As of right now, casinos have sports betting but, they still need the legislature to send a final law to the Gaming Commission for rules and regs. That did not happen in the last session. So, no sports wagering at all until next legislative session in January or, if the Gov. demands a special session at anytime.
I live in Albany, trust me, these humps will not miss out on a full round of donations and lobbying especially in the wake of the Supreme Court decision of Janus, giving their labor union revenue stream a haircut.

Spot on!

In Pennsylvania, the monthly tax is expected to be an astronomical 36 percent at the state and local level — 34 percent to the state and two percent to local municipalities. Add in the federal tax and it totals a whopping 41 percent.
Then Pa wants 10 MILLION to get a Sports Betting license for the privilege of paying enormous taxes
Pa politicians are a joke on how they want to tax gambling
No wonder the black market bookies are booming in Pa. lucrative market so dumb greedy Politicians have fucked it up from its citizens
Time for change
Need Trump to drain the swamp.

Are you fools that stupid?  The tax is not on the bettors wager, the tax is on the firms taking the wagers and are paid out of their profits, not off the bettors wager.

Bettors don’t pay the tax. The Casinos have to. Each one has to cough up 10$million and pay crippling tax. Leaving them with not enough profit to make it worthwhile
Meanwhile the illegal bookies do a booming business and give you every opportunity to wager at best odds and offer options like credit so you bet even more!
This explains why these bookies own giant houses and cruise in luxury boats instead of the profits from gambling money going to PA citizens and the racetracks
Politicians are greedy and dumb.

You make some great points, Bond. Your local bookmaker will give you almost a week to pay, if you say, bet a Wednesday game. You might settle on the following Monday. The State; place your money down when you wager. If you are a good customer, you hometown bookie will give you additional time. The State; no way. Your Bookmaker will prolly by you a drink or two, when collecting. The State; yea right.
One thing a smart bookmaker will never do is kill the cow while it is still giving milk. The state will kill you with it's tax and fees.
One last thing, your Bookmaker will give you a Christmas card and maybe a little gift at the end of the year. The State, they will give you a W-2G.
 Help support your local Bookmaker.
