Title: IS EARLY SUMMER A GOOD TIME TO BUY A USED 2 YEAR OLD?
Post by: Calhoun on June 26, 2018, 09:32:07 AM
A.  Yes.  They are good bargains this time of year.  Smart owners are buying.

B.  Maybe.  It's always a crapshoot no matter the time of year.  Good luck.

C.  No.  If they were any good, they wouldn't be for sale.  Only a fucking dummy buys a used 2 yo this time of year.

I'm thinking B or C is right.

If the price is right most not all 2 year olds are for sale. Even the good ones again for the right price. Once told and at times should have listen. Take the silver because you never know if there is a pot of gold.

I bought Beachin Lindy And Sometimesawinner at the first of August last year and they both turned into decent three year olds. If your patient and their well bred you have a shot. For a poor guy it’s the best chance of getting a good horse. Many of the bigger owners are dumping the ones they don’t think will be stake horses and you can usually get them for 25-30% of the yearling price. I see a Rockandrolldance out of a sister to Foiled Again on ongait starting at 10k. Colt is already been Q’ld and fair stakes raced. Seems reasonable to to me.

horses change more from 2 to 3, physically and mentally, more than at any other point in their career. its kinda like lookin at little leaguers and trying to pick major leaguers. some will come back much improved and run right bye their 2 yo opponents from the year before while others, who had dominated will no longer be competitive. tough time to buy one in my opinion.
