Title: when does a trainer know?
Post by: goblue on May 11, 2018, 02:28:13 PM
Is it possible for a trainer to know at this point that they have a special 2yo? Or is every trainer saying that about their horses that haven't broken down yet?

I know a trainer can know at this point if their horse is shit, but what about really good?

You can tell who is good and who is bad if you have several. For me, around April 1 is when you can start to see who is special and who is so so, or who isn't gunna make it. I haven't had many. Other big trainers I'm sure are very good at it. The more you do, the easier it is to tell. You start to see the characteristics of good and bad ones and the differences in their training miles.

WHEN THEY GET UNDER 204 IN A JOG CART  THEY USUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE

THE BEST TRAINERS KNOW THE  GOODS (real thing) AS SOON AS SIT ON THEM

BUT FOR THE NORM ITS ABOUT 204,,

JUNE 1ST ,,IS PROB THE BEST AS FAR AS DATE WISE GO

205 or UNDER HORSES START SEPARATING THEMSELVES

One sign that your baby is good, if you are stabled at a large facility, is that the parasite agents and consignors start coming around like they know you.  After 50 years of doing this, you don't look at the horse, you look at the people who are looking at the horse.  There is no joy in having a gifted baby unless you keep it and can hold your breath until the horse is 4 and has banked at least $300,000.

Anyone who trains a juvenile 2:04 in a jog cart isn't playing with a full deck.  That's bush league.  Anything under 2:10 has to be in a race bike.  No exceptions.  I wouldn't even train an aged horse that fast in a cart.  It's added strain on every part of the animal.  It doesn't build them up, it breaks them down.  Carts are for jogging and training slow.  THAT is the building up process.  Speed comes from comfort and ease.

My experience was they claim to know as soon as they start training them and after you burned tens of thousands staking the "special ones" then reality sets back in and they never admit to a mistake. :1
