Guess it was just a matter of time before the bulldozers rolled in. Long live the memories.

Very sad that its over, from talking to people it was quite the place for harness back in the day....big crowds and competitive racing....cool for freaks like me who like that scene tmbz1 Might make the trip out that way July 8th just to cross it off my bucket list.....Always felt upset I missed out on taking in a live card at Atlantic city course. :P

Burke and some others could sponsor this and make it a big deal. It would nice.

They should have asked Darrell about his brother Jim who drove and raced horses in Michigan for decades,Jim fixed literally thousands of races with Joe Berry and the late Al Mugsy,Jim is just a small part of the reason that Michigan racing failed, funny how people that write these articles have no clue about the real truth.Claudia by the way is a wonderful ,honest, and hard working woman

My dad took me to Northville when i was 12 in 1973,ironically that was the year that Michigan had the highest handle, every year since then the handle has declined. The first casino in Detroit opened in 1999,26 years after the handle started to decline in Michigan. So many blame the casino for the demise of racing here in Michigan, yet racing was done 25 years or so before a casino ever opened in the area.It makes me sick that scum like Jim Wright and a list as long as you can imagine, fixed races and are just left off the hook because people think the casinos ruined racing when in fact it was the race fixers who nobody did a damn thing about that ruined the industry. That is my rant of the day

Spent alot of time at action Jackson in the early 90's. Always a couple old railbirds hanging around, one with binoculars and a cigar always standing on the downstairs steps. Cold beer on a Sunday afternoon. A stop at the old Trackside Bar on Blackstone before or after the races. Pauly's sports bar on the weekends. Always trying to find a good odds horse as the Buters and Darrell Wright were always overbet. Jeff James came in once in a while for some of the higher purses. Couple road trips to Northville and Hazel but couldn't beat a nice evening at Jackson.
-
will there be betting ? dollar dogs and beer on a nice Sunday afternoon..

YOU'RE THE MHHA BOARD MEMBER AND YOU ARE ASKING US? YOU SHOULD BE THE ONE PROVIDING THE INFORMATION, NOT ASKING THE PUBLIC. NO WONDER RACING IN THIS STATE IS SO FUCKED UP. RETARDS ON THE MHHA . GO DO SOMETHING FOR THE GOOD OF HORSEMEN FOR A CHANGE
-
Who’s the chick in the white coat?
-
this has nothing to do with mhha, this is put on by Jackson Raceway, they are putting up the money, it's not coming from the purse pool or deptment of Ag
-
and after reading the article I see NO GAMBLING...
-
It will be nice to here the words " And Here They Come" one more time. I understand many people
could give a shit less ,but the B track was very special place to spend weekend evenings. To me
it was the best track in Michigan, a small hometown track that was easy to get to. The Detroit
tracks were cold institutional looking facilities, they didn't have a comfortable setting. If you
went to Jackson much , you pretty much knew all the regulars, or always recognized most
people. But ! like all good things they have to eventually come to an end. It a damn shame
as far as I am concerned, but that's the way things go.

I totally understand , Jim drove my horse at Saginaw and a couple of times at Jackson when Chuck Taylor
was out of town. Jim always gave me honest drives.

Here the real drivers were not allowed of jail today..Thanks "Oil Can Boyd" 73cv.2 11.wp

Some of the biggest all time crooks were there,Terry Buter,Kim Pluta,Dave Seabright,Rob and Don Harmon,Don Currier Jr,even some dead guys like the bookie Stash, the GM Chic Young,Mugsy, and to many others to mention, another track that the cheaters ruined, and most will blame the Casino, when the casino had nothing to do with there downfall,TRAVESTY!!
-
That thief Bret Boyd was there also,he WILL rot in hell
-
None of the older Wrenns showed up. Its understandable... .they never showed up in most of the races they were in at Jackson
-
Was a real nice day for a dozen contests, seeing some old friends. Props to James Witherite for some great race calls and awesome as usual on the call to post with the bugle. Lots of cheers from the large crowd and some tears as everyone in attendance joined in on the "Here they come" for the start of the final race on the storied old fairgrounds. Have a lot of great memories of the place, sad to see another track make the curtain call and end racing

The Jackson finale was fine horsemen moved out of state is one reason for the closings of tracks and government never gives up assistance im glad I got out in 1996 but don't fault anyone who stayed
-
Some track should hire the person who put this thing together. Got a crap load of people out to a track with no organized gambling involved. Could be the publicity director that many tracks desperately need.

Yes. All you need is to closed down ten years ago and eliminate all other racing in your state. Then, open for one day with no wagering. Brilliant marketing strategy.

The exhibition event comes 10 years after the raceway closed and just weeks ahead the track's scheduled demolition. Jackson Harness Raceway opened in 1948.
Co-organizer Mike Way expected 2,000 to 3,000 to attend the free farewell event. Instead, he estimates 6,000 to 7,000 showed up and came to life for the dozen two-lap races.
"The roar of that crowd is what I'm going to remember forever. That was so loud, I was taken aback," Way said. "That just reinforces the passion that's out there for harness racing."
A SHAME THAT SOME THINK THERE HAS TO BE BETTING TO ENJOY A DAY AT THE RACES. MUST BE ONE OF THOSE LEAST COAST FOOLS WHO ARE TAKING TURNS AT RUINING RACING. THIS WAS A GREAT MEMORIAL FOR A GREAT PLACE DONE THE RIGHT WAY.

I am sure those 7,000 people at Jackson all had a great time and got to revisit a time when racing was a great experience. It is sad what has happened in Michigan. But, please don't look to the east when assessing blame. It was your own government that decided racing was not worth the effort in Michigan. Your own people destroyed what was once a viable lifestyle and profitable industry.

Love when at the jug between races they were filming the 2 old black dudes raking the footsteps to and from the winners circle and Huston says those Coons did a wonderful job on this racetrack referring to the family who rebanked the turns.
-
We all know it was New Jersey that started ruining racing by trying to steal it from the Midwest, by getting the government to give them purse money to race for ungodly sums, then Delaware with slots, then new York and Pennsylvania. Sure looks like the eat coast elites started this gimme game, and now the New Jersey track owner has his palm out looking to revive the handouts, good money after bad

It is better to remain silent and let people think you are a dopey cocksucker than, open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Nicest thing about the last fling at J town was there were none of those East Coast Jews there to try and tell everyone how they are supposed to do it.
East coast jew has 36 horses to race he dont have time to attend the funeral. tmbz1 73cv.2

Good riddance to another harness dump. How much bet between those 6000-7000?

Criminals ruined racing.

Criminals ruined racing.
Yes they did
-
Criminals were always involved in racing. Now, racing being just a fraction of what it once was, the criminals are more apparent and as brazing as ever.

Myself, being the self appointed leader of the Jews in harness racing wouldn't be caught dead in Jackson. There are way to many people with dark skin there. Don't want to get caught in a KKK ambush by accident. Jackson Mississippi just isn't for me.
