CONFEDERATE / Monday / Red Mile
« on: September 03, 2023, 10:24:00 AM »
Will a rabbit half, etc. from stablemate COMMAND provide the necessary fractions for a CONFEDERATE World Record, or does he even need the help?

Bulldog did it at 4 -- 3yr old WR is 46.4.  Yes, Bulldog is the fastest overall, but his 3yr old mark was 48.
The greatest ever?  That's definitely up for debate.

Greatest Standardbred pacer of all time is not even up for debate, It is Dan Patch. One can assume he would pace in 1.42 based on what he did over a century ago. 1.55 in 1900? mind boggling. Undefetred in Open co. and at one time literally the most famous athlete alive. free legged is even more astonishing.

Exactly. And others -- Bret Hanover, SBSW, etc. etc. And if you want to go further back how about the horse who forgot time -- Dan Patch. Let's keep in mind Bulldog lost 9 races throughout his career and only attained elite status at 4.

Can't argue with any of that.

If he raced Somebeachsomewher e and both were 3 year olds, SBSW would have jerked his bridle.

It is forecast for 95 degrees tomorrow.  Now if this was the big race in October with more money and competition as well as reputation on the line and this weather there would be no problem with a 3 year old world record.

I figured he'd be barred from the wagering.

Good point but it's easier to dictate fractions and horse placement with essentially a 2-horse entry -- no serious competition and a short 5 horse field.

He opened with 17,800 on him to win with the other four having a total of 150.
