Title: Monticello Thursday record numbers!
Post by: wizardofoz on February 03, 2024, 12:40:46 AM
Monticello, NY – When live racing was cancelled on Monday (Jan. 29), Race Secretary Eric Warner and Monticello Harness Horsemen President Alan Schwartz worked together and carded 13 races for Thursday to help the horsemen who got shut out on Monday, the decision worked out well for both parties; the 13-race card handled $1,114,118.36 with a per race average $85,701. It was the second highest handle in the 66-year History of the Mighty M!  Yonkers did only $440,000 Thursday night on 10 races!

Bravo to them.
I like those kinda Monti early aft et numbers

BUT being in Canada, if you play Monti, you play dollar mins on EVERY bet. Sure would be nice to get in on 60cent min (50 cent u.s) on pick 5, 20 cent mins on (10 cent u.s. supers), etc. Regulatory update needed with them.

Lots of that handle, we harness lovin' sucker Canadians.
'Youre welcome Monti mgmnt.'

How do you explain how MR can average over $85,000 a race with many, many cheap horses versus YR at $44,000 a race with far superior horses and drivers? They are both half mile ovals that come with all their short comings. Both tracks have a nearly zero attendance.

Monti has become my go to track. Great to see people in the winners circle with big smiles on their faces. No worry about the big drug trainers shipping in and taking the money. Every race is competitive.

Nice job Monti.

Easy. Monti races in the afternoon. Yonkers races at the same time as Mohawk.

If Monticello could card 13 races per day in that time slot they might do around $1 million in handle daily.  It is a very bet friendly place for horse racing. Any word on the Newburgh Resorts World slots adding to their purses as was promised?

Newburgh Resorts World is performing miserably. Far below expectations, but not to be unexpected. It is in an area near the shithole of Newburgh city itself and the gaming glut for dollars has taken it's toll on tri-state ny suburban gamblers. If the purse increase has not come by now, it is never coming. Still for the waste land of Montishithole to be doing 1 million versus Yonkers 400 k is quite admirable. Yonkers needs to disappear permanently.

When Yonkers used to race Tuesday afternoons they were out handled by Monti every week.
