Read the book; know several who were involved with him during the 70's; I believe almost all of what he says, but would apply a "haircut" to size/impact of many episodes he describes.

Definitely not a good read or listen if one is trying to encourage new owners  ???

Different times now than back then. These are stories from yesteryear and don’t believe that this degree of deceit would even be possible these days.

I read the book and new one of the guys he talks about and he said it was way over exaggerated. Said Larry was a real small time player and nothing like Herve who was considered the best in that era at gambling but died broke. But Larry had a gift to gab and always wanted to seem like he was smarter than everyone else. He has to do podcasts today just to feed himself so how much money did he really make.  ngc3

The podcasts are free to listen to.. How does he make money on them?

Thank you. Someone who gets it. The book is a good read but mostly fictional.

Very fictional. Raced there hundreds of times from 1976 to 2012. Never approached by him or any of his cohorts. Never felt i was in a race that he tainted. Wielded no power when he came to YR or RR.

I was told Larry was a nice guy but not a major player and small time guy who was just like most of the guys from that era and tried setting one up. I was also told he lost his ass when het big money by a good friend of mine who was the teller at his window.

Not a promoter in any way, just think his story, fact or fictional is riveting to a fan of this sport that we all enjoy so much.
He won the Cane Pace with wildwood Jeb so he must not be a big nobody.
Sounds as if he is broke because of his addiction to sports gambling.
Try watching his the podcasts and see what you think, not promoting this for any reason. Don’t know him, just think that his story is really interesting.  I read the plop and joined specifically to ask why I have never seen any posts about a podcast that I wait to see come out only once a week.

He never once boasted about race fixing at Yonkers or Roosevelt. I only heard him talk about Monticello which had huge handle back then.
He even tells how he got tossed out of YR after just a short time racing there when he just started.

Wildwood Jeb 1981 Cane Pace - Jimmy Marohn 28.1 to the quarter then goes a 32.2 for a half in 1:00.3   Beat the likes of Eastern Skipper, Land Grant, Seahawk Hanover and Armbro Wolf and brand New fella.. BTW, Herve DEFINITELY should have retaken on Wildwood Jeb with Eastern Skipper. Instead he is pinned to the rail and climbing over Marohn at the wire.Eastern skipper was a much better horse than WJ   In fact Herve raced him in to Opens as a 3 year old and won them both vs aged horses.  Worst Cane pace since the invention of the mobile gate. Give Jimmy days for a 32.2 second quarter in a Grand Circuit race.

You had to be there to understand Monticello. The stories he tells, late 60's thru the 70's, he knew all the players, and I know most of the stories may be somewhat exaggerated, they are true. He's likeable guy, who could talk with the best of them. A wealth of info as most of the players from then are gone.
