Original member Offstride passes away
« on: February 21, 2023, 04:16:02 PM »
Bruce, aka Offstride,  has sadly passed away at 65. He was a longtime contributor to horseplop. He also did a ton of work behind the scenes keeping the site functioning.
Bruce spent much of his harness time at Raceway Park in Toledo. He loved to visit as many tracks in the region as possible.
Hazel
Sports Creek
Jackson
Windsor
Northfield
DRC/Wolverine
Balmoral Park
Hoosier Park
Delaware Co Fairgrounds (where he was a Jug Week staple for decades)
Scioto
...and several of the Ohio fairs. He had many friends on this forum, and many more in his native northwest Ohio area.
RIP to a knowledgeable harness fan.

Met up with him and big wrench back in the day when they visited the Chicago tracks. Seemed like pretty cool guys. He was a tall guy, maybe 6'5" and knew his harness history. Rest in peace ✌
well, it's game over here at Maywood. thanks johnny Johnston for giving us fans the shaft!

SAD to hear. Never personnaly met him, but I considered him a friend goin back many years. He was always gratious to JOHN FRANK and puttin up with wild posts of mine. I knew back in day he was involved with PLOP,but had not seen him post much. Great GUY and went much to young. I knows this sounds stoopid, but I'SS consider him one of me best friends on BARN and PLOP. JOE and OFF I'M sure were great when my wife passed. Set up a fund to defray. I did not need it and it was not alot as I donated it to NECROTIC PANCREATITIES research. IT was the thought that counted. Again, SAD to HEAR. R.I.P.

Bruce had lots of friends here in Ohio. I know he was tight with Jerry Toska the trainer/owner. He was also friendly with Mike Tanner at the USTA because he introduced us at the Jug.
Bruce had a brother. His dad Lou passed some years ago. Bruce was proud of his "Hunkie" (Hungarian) heritage.
Bruce was a decent guy. I met his gf once at Raceway Park. He liked the Lions and Tigers in pro sports, as well as OSU football. I knew him better than most, but not all. He was devastated when Raceway closed.
Bruce became ill starting about 10 years ago. He had that flesh eating disease that almost took his life. He survived that, lost a ton of weight, then just last year took ill again with a stroke.
Bruce loved harness racing...everythi ng about it in fact. He had a great memory for horses and horsemen.
RIP friend  tmbz1

I met Bruce at Raceway Park about 15 years ago and we immediately hit it off.   Hung out with him there, at Northville Downs, and at various fair meets in Ohio.  Met him a few times at Tony Packo’s for lunch or dinner.  He loved harness racing, had a great sense of humor, and didn’t take himself too seriously.   Went through hell physically over the last 10 years and never once complained.   If he was your friend, he was your friend, no matter what.   I will miss him very much.
