Who knew?? Canada's first track to reopen is...
« on: May 07, 2020, 06:35:35 PM »
Winnipeg Manitoba's cheap but fun thoroughbreds ASSINIBOIA DOWNS

Will start mon night may 25 830p et. and run Mon Tue and Wed nights at 830p et. thru august (no fans til sept 1)

The GM. says he picked these three nights , with no casino revenue available til sept..in hopes of huge world handle, and he might just get it.  Canada, USA, Europe, Britain $$ available.

If you will be betting it for first time, lighting terrible saddlepad numbers small, but WHO THE HELL CARES.

May the 5 claimers join the fun.

Beer cans..that sounds like the winnipeg locals for sure.

The handle these upcoming nights, at least for first couple weeks will sooth any further concern.  Should be bigger than anything theyve ever seen.

Covid wipes out this summer....but if health and wealth permitting and youre looking for something totally different (fresh air and adventure)for 5 days next august..

fly into winnipeg,
take in t'breds one aft or eve,
catch a cfl game and the bluebombers..
then drive 7.5 hrs. south through ne north dakota and into minnesota and play Running Aces a couple nights before heading hr south to minneapolis, watch a twins b'ball game and head home.
(canterbury tbreds not far from there too)
*hell, chicago 6 hrs drive sw of there if you have the time)

They are only having six races per card so no saying how long they will have between races. Appears they have reduced the purse payout ten percent in cooperation with the horsemen.

6 races per card? Social distancing the card too lol

GM said 300 horses on the grounds..250-300 more from western canada en route where they are NOT racing..at least for now.

As I recall, their takeout is among the very worst in North America, not that it will make a difference to many of us !

Was at Assiniboia Downs last summer and we were headed to the parking lot near the clubhouse turn after the races when an empty case of beer cans was thrown down from the judges stand.

Good to see judges finally off the hard stuff! A case of Seagram crown Royal bottles a lot worse (used to luv that stuff in my drinking days) to get hit with.

Can't do the betting thing here. I need a mile or 7/8 buggy track for my wagering to resume. Would play NYRA circuit but don't see that happening. I guess I'm waiting to see Hoosier open.

GL any playing. tmbz1

Stopped playing Alberta once the Barbados Vice took over?
