In arkansas, racing falls under the department of agriculture, not business. They are not affected by the shut down of business.
In florida, the state wants them closed. Threatening to send police there to physically prevent racing.
Tgis lost makes no sense

mr furlong
appreciate the information and that may be part of the reason
but two things come to mind
1. my understanding is that weg has guaranteed money from the olg , to the point they are now giving horses $1,000 per month so i assume they would be better off racing than giving this money away
2. assuming your point is correct than the reason why many tracks are not racing has nothing to do with health or safety but strictly dollars??

Pompano closed because they had no money in the purse account.
But they won’t admit that.
Why else when Gulfstream is running and is in the same county?
-
Thank god they will be racing next year,,,,,,what will the purses be them

$8.6 million in the must give pick 6 pool and chalk wins race 1
-
amazing , a racetrack running , go figure
-
Look up the results from Gulfstream on Equibase and open the chart window and look at the pool totals. Gulfstream and Oaklawn don’t need casinos to fund them . Understandably everyone wants to race and as in PA there is casino fund money for purses . To race in front of an empty grandstand, who is going to pay the officials and the track crew and maintenance and lights . Nobody is going to bet enough to pay those costs . No Casino going no racing . Gulfstream averages 8 to 10 million a day empty grandstand and on Florida Derby day the handled 30 million , empty grandstand.

I think the bold is a false statement?? I believe the Ontario taxpayer is funding the purse account??? I heard there are a few 13 yr. old horses that haven't raced in 3 years earning a $1,000/month. ngc3

About $166.5 million was wagered on thoroughbred racing this week, the highest mark since the current five-track schedule began.
Gulfstream: $70.6 million
Oaklawn: $43.2 million
Tampa Bay: $25.6 million
Will Rogers: $14.5 million
Fonner: $12.5 million

not hard to do when you are the only game in town and you are smart enough to have a mandatoiry pick 6 every month or so
mohawk would do fine from a handle perspective right now if racing, from a hrarness perspective( not comnparing to tbreds)
doesnt take many officials to run a harness card these days

In order to be eligible to receive funds pursuant to this interim measure, owners must complete an application which must be submitted to Ontario Racing Management Inc. (ORM). Eligibility requirements for this program include the following:
Horses must be trained and raced by an Ontario-based trainer with a valid AGCO license
Certification that the horse is resident in Ontario, or has completed a Stall Application for the 2020 race season, or is otherwise verified to be coming to Ontario for the 2020 race season
The horse’s first start following the resumption of racing in Ontario must be at an Ontario track, unless otherwise approved by Ontario Racing
Horses must be at least three years old, and either have not yet raced or have raced since January 1, 2019
Subject to meeting the above eligibility criteria, for the months of April and May, should racing continue to be suspended, racehorse owners will be eligible to receive the following payments, each of which is estimated to cover half of the monthly costs associated with boarding, feed and training fees (veterinary, blacksmith, shipping, and other fees are not included in this estimate):
Thoroughbreds - $1,500/month
Standardbreds - $1,000/month
-
Obviously, the Ontario taxpayers disagree with you Ice, man! ngc3
-
A horse is a horse is a horse of course so why do Thoroughbreds get $1,500 and Standardbreds get only $1,000. IMO set the value and keep it the same for both breeds.
