What is your prediction for handle and what number would be consider a success / failure for the final number..... They have a unique advantage getting a head start as other tracks and states get ready to open...
I was thinking they would handle around 750k -- they will be helped with light thouroughbred schedule
-
Sounds reasonable. I would not be shocked if it was $250k higher or lower. Nobody knows what to expect from this Covid19 damage.
-
Im going to stay with my last month guess of 1.2 mill
-
You would have thought the entries would be posted on US Trotting......... .....by now.............. ........but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O........
will the "MOUTH" be there............ ........will SamStar ship to Scioto........... ........
-
Those numbers are all failures from a purse structure. OTB are still closed. No on track handle. The ADW is a small take % in the end game of handle especially funding a purse account more so when casinos are closed. I'm not sure how many races they will race nor the day purses given out. They will have to handle several millions to come close to funding the purses going out per a card.
-
IS TVG HANDLING SCIOTO
-
Anything less than 3 million is abject failure
-
Nowhere near 3m,,,not even in Their wettest dreams
-
Which means everyone that saying racing will gather all this handle(no other sports to wager) on the racing end but there unaware how much is needed to break par. Yet right nowhere close to 3.0mln which needs probably more then that to break even. I'm sure purses will be 125k or more.

This is true in a perfect world, however, harness racing's own failures have made the replies to this statement the likely reality.
Banning any bad actor from this point forward might show the public harness racing is interested in curing decades of bad behavior.
But that is like wishing for the impossible.

problem is they could ban them -- all of them -- would anyone other than a harness bettor even know ?

I was told they posted entries late because of 16 Qs at Scioto, then draw! I believe weekend handle close to $3 million!! Got one in Friday and one Saturday. TellMeLikeitis and GD!! Hopefully can get $$$

thanks for the program. Cal expo handled almost 1.2 million when they were the last harness track running, with mostly 6-7 horse fields and only 10 races. I'd say Scioto gets between 1.8 and 2 million for the night Friday 11.wp

good betting card.
dont see a horse going off less than 8 to 5 all night
if that

facts guy! look it up. Plus Charlestown is racing, theyll lure some degen money from them in between races
-
Remember this..
As long as the qualifying line is 'tight' and 'interested', these guys can knock off 2-3 seconds in the 'real thing for the money' if they want.
All returning tracks can expect that.

I agree with nickusac. First harness card in a long time. At least 1.5 for friday

on Scioto's side is that Churchill are not doing their Friday night cards and Santa Anita will be done around the 4th race. Los Al which will draw 200k in the pick 4 doesn't start till later.

Up here in Toronto otb champions hubs, avoid scioto downs like the plague most nights..one of few u.s. tracks that didnt cut deal with canada weg-ulators and thus force can. players on scioto to play for dollar minimums on any bet. FORGET IT.
Often scioto tv channel turned to another show every night I can remember.
Friday night..rare chance for that joint to get some of our hefty harness betting bucks...but that wont last long with others' openings on horizon....a buck minimum for every scioto wager for us up here (like other hellholes pocono, yonkers, rosecroft, running aces) wont get it done.
Hope it all changes but dont see it.

Should have known why this forum is full of so many degenerate losing bettors.... a shithole in Ohio that usually gets zero play is first up after two plus months off and maybe one qualifier and clowns on here can't wait to lose cash. There are a small handful of real handicappers on here and they won't be touching this dump with a ten foot pole. Who said there was a sucker born everyday...... throwing darts at a tiny board.... GOOD LUCK
Correct.
Plop degenerates are predicting $2 Million handles for garbage welfare tracks.
There will be a thread... Pigland will last 2 races... LucPark will get robbed by a bad drive 5x... Various other Degens will be sobbing as usual.
And handle won't likely reach $300k.

Totally get it
But watching the Q's, cuz I had the time.... There were several 5th and 6th place finishers in the Q's plodding along while whomever was sitting behind them doubling them up down the lane.
Some stables look like duds --- others had them ready --- some looking to cash a ticket at potentially good prices as I bet a few of them are starting to feel the pinch of not racing...…
-
12 races … 25k a race is 300,000. Luc's gonna win that bet .. Handle will be way over 300. I'd lay 1/5 all on that all day long. Not gonna be 2 mil either. same odds.

Friday's was already posted here yesterday by John. Where did you find a free Saturday program? Only Friday's is posted on Trackmaster's site and my ADW only has Friday's available right now

program ready -- more Q's to watch this morning before heading to work tonight.
I wonder what management would consider success / failure ?
-
With no fans ( although not many go to the track ) all wagering is reliant on ADW....
A couple of years ago, there was an article in DRF. For some reason a lot of the big internet companies contracts were coming up. TVG, xpressbet and twinspires….
They discussed that the give back to tracks were usually 3-5%...
So tonight -- With Scioto the only harness game going this weekend. I was thinking about the numbers. Now granted their purses are inflated from the slot check they receive but what could a big weekend mean handle to purse...
say Scioto handles $1 million tonight. At the top end lets say they get 5% or $50,000... Take 5% for track management, personnel, utilities and insurance.
So they are left with $45,000 from the ADW to pay purses....
Friday Purses equal $124,500... They would run out of money into 6th race.
If they had to race from actual wagers on possibly their greatest night with a 12 race card -- $3,750
-
Between 750 & 1 mil, few tracks & similcast outlets open, Goodluck Jola
-
MVG was probably averaging 30k handle a race. I think Scioto will do 50k a race for a 600k handle or better. Would be nice if they did 100k a race but will have to see it to believe it. Still alot of folks that won't or can't open a online betting account.

THEY SEEM FIT,,,,,,ONLY THE TRIP BEAT HIM IN THE SECOND

Oh yeah they are fit all right. Just shouldn't be bringing them to Ohio just because we are the only show in town right now. Should have put a condition that no horses are allowed that haven't raced in Ohio the past year.

Merriman is having a rough night. Can't find a hole, horses seem short

I saw race 5 had 77000 total bet but 22000 of that was the pick 5 . I guess the numbers are good ? I don’t the track what’s there usual handle ?

I haven't looked up past handle but looks like they are doing at least double their usual handle. Probably averaged 30-40k per race in the past.

TVG picked up the signal part way through race 6. Will be interesting to see if that affects the handle.

#8, I know another Burke horse - but watching the Q's on the 16th --- this horse was the most impressive.
The 2 pulled and was chasing, yes against the winner of the Mare Open Rosemary Rose, but she pulled out of the hole and spun her wheels going a third quarter in 29.2 -- Driver change will make a difference.

That was not a bad price --- my best bet of the night --- thought I would have gotten a better price on the one in the second race...
Mr Burke would like to thank Ohio for the pockets of money ……. Purses GOOD ? depends when you go behind the gate and you're racing for second monies....
Race 8
#4 Another Burke horse - and another that Page asked no trot out of just sitting in the bike in the Q
#7 made an easy move to be pass a tired one and was a gapped second to the Burke horse.
#1 Peggy Sue --- SNeaky --- Galliers really did nothing to let her trot in the Q

That was not a bad price --- my best bet of the night --- thought I would have gotten a better price on the one in the second race...
It was a ok price. 8 hole, now winner of last 4 albeit against better at Northfield. Would have thought a little more than even money.

I get you on the even money price --- but is Burke and after the start he has had and in my opinion, this was the best looking horse that Qualified on the 16th..... Better than the Open Mare that afternoon.

I like this 7 in the 9th race. Perrin. Tough trip in qualy. The 5 had the easy trip winning the qualy. If he gets a trip 7 might just be there.
-
Race 9
The #5 should be a short price --- he beat the third place Open trotter in race 8 pretty handily... Merriman was sitting chilly....
Long Shot -- #3 -- raced very easy in Q and KK never asked for trot --- not sure if he can go enough, but like I said on Wittyville from the second --- the Q was better than what it looks like on paper... Just not sure he's good enough.
#2 -- Lorentzon horses all qualified pretty good without too much urging.

Race 10 Scioto....pre-FBI investigation the #4 would have been even money and probably have jogged. I'm guessing he'll quit and I'm hoping the #1 can pick up some pieces.
-
Nothing stood out in the Q's for the 10th race....
Trumpets looked better than Manny L in the Q.... Aaron was doing a little more chasing, where as Trumpets did it on his own..... But you have the Greeno factor and doubt he gets a perfect two hole trip.
The Chris Beaver horses that Q at Delaware on Wed and Thurs looked good.... not sure how this one will go coming up from the south.
Race 11
#1 -- looked easy going in Q and was beaten by the winner of the 3rd race which was the other division of this NW $3500
#8 Rock The Baby --- shot off the gate and Josh sat chilly to the wire. Not a ton of speed in race.
#4 Artini -- made a rare move to the outside in a Q and was chased my Arod trying to catch the 8

TVG only showed 2&1/2 races so im not sure that helped much?
-
I think 1 is probably the winner in race 11. Will key her with the 2, 4 and 8. This 4 puzzles me. Struggled in the quallys at Northville but Merriman had her going in the qually at Scioto. 28.4 final 1/4. Worth a shot at 10/1.

Big deal only harness track and that's all they did. That's a sad number and the purse account was lucky to make up 40% of what they paid out tonight if that. A b track like TB downs 8k claimer will handle 65% of what the whole card of Scoito handled. Horse racing industry let the biggest gorilla in the room ADW evolve outside the sport and the sport gets peanuts in return. How long till fans get back inside the track. July, Sept, Oct, Nov, 2020? Or sometime in 2021?

Part of the reason was the paddock meeting went over by a few minutes, but still no excuse for 13 minutes from The horses on track until actually race.

the dragging out races to me is a big deal. Last night was an exception but I rarely watch races live. I make my bets and watch the replays, making notes on horse to watch their next start.
When I watch live or the rare occasion I am at the track, sitting aroud I'll probably will bet something -- extra money wagered.
I already have my bets set for tonight ---- betting 4 races.... Probably get to watch a couple.... But for the most part will stick to the 4 races, win or lose that's what they get from me.
Could you imagine a 28 year old college graduate playing a slot machine or hand of black jack.... the dealer gives you the first card, and then waits a couple of minutes to give you the next card ?

ALMOST 1.1 MIL

ALMOST 1.1 MIL
about how much of that goes to purses?

ALMOST 1.1 MIL
Scioto --- last year -- with every track going handled 1.1 million last year... Really ??

I thought tracks keep 50% and the othere 50% goes to purses? that would make it 25k to purses? or about $2000 purses starting next week if they can continue to handle 1 million per night.

If horsemen didnt cheat more people would bet

Yeah, right!
Total handle on the 12-race program was $1,054,294.15, the second highest handle in history at Scioto Downs, a number that hasn’t been seen at the five-eighths-mile oval in more than 20 years.

This was five times their normal handle. Pent up demand. But after watching the cheating and intentional lack of effort will they get half that tonight? Many won’t return for more of this shitty product.

You would think guys that haven't earned any purse money for over 2 months would try their best with every horse, no?
-
NO. It's much easier to stiff a big favorite and cash a ticket. The trainers and drivers don't own a lot of the horses. The 5% share is shit. Cashing a ticket is much better.

It takes a pandemic, 2.5 months of no live racing, the only harness track to be racing and it's a proud moment for the track to have its second highest handle in more then 20 years? With all that's happening and fans shutout from tracks and OTBs the lowest form of purse handle is in place. If this is the new norm look for major purse cuts especially if casinos suffer major revenue losses the next couple years.
ADW all states maybe different or it's all the same. But take CA 79.75 of that handle is returned to the public. The 21.25% is split into minor pieces of 11 or 12 different line items. One being purse return. If your a CA resident wagering on a CA track 5.35% will return to the purse. If your not a CA track it's just 2.79%. Spin a 20yr handle with no other tracks in play as something like "history" I call it a sad night for harness racing wagering. Somebody was kind saying purses would have ran out by race 6. More like after race 3 or 4 especially if a open was involved.

Monday might be better, Fonner will be the only competition

I thought tracks keep 50% and the other 50% goes to purses? that would make it 25k to purses? or about $2000 purses starting next week if they can continue to handle 1 million per night.
You are correct , Porky. And 5% would be on the high end.
Lokk , there are two components that make up the greatest share of the pie when it comes to making a successful racing meet. One is the backing from the state the other is a expertly crafted market plan from management. Currently, neither party has the slightest interest in horse racing. Racing for OTB only is a disaster plan. Unfortunately, it is the only plan.
