I didn't know he was involved on the exchange  I used to see him in the paddock. Long wool trenchcoat, looking and acting like a gangster.  Ben Steall, Rene Poulin and Jimmy Marohn among his to go to clients for "dead" drives. $200 cash usually did the trick.

We was one of the early guys on the NYMEX exchange. Horses were his hobby, long with broads, and other extra Curricular's. Now he's involved with TB's.

I never had a problem with Andy.    Now, Russell Bagon was a different story

Ha, Russell would brag about how he had a young George Brennan under his thumb at Monti when GB was getting started.. Was banished to Florida to ply his trade at Pompano

Skeeter Pines would hand out the envelopes outside of Yonkers gates ( he was banned from Yonkers) than head up to one of the OTB parlors in Orange County and pound his numbers. He would do it quietly as a crowd would gather around the window he was betting.

Always Trifectas, and only one race a day leaving out 3-4 drivers and playing multiple combos with the "live" drivers so it looked like a real race.

Hilarious. I have not bet YR since the '90's

Dead on accurate.  A current driver at Monticello, a winner, not a loser once told me Russell once broke into Billy Parker's trailer while he was day racing and stole $40,000 cash along with a couple of other guys. Billy found out but didnt even do anything. I trust my source, so I must believe it is true.

On January 13th, 1994 chargers were filed against Russell Bagon, Dennis Fawcett, Tom Merton, Danny Ricco, Joe Napolitano, William Maroney and Phil Bogner for race fixing at The Mighty M. The story said if convicted each could face up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. I don't recall any follow up story with any fines or convictions.

Russel ultimately died young, Tommy Meerton and Dennis Fawcett had their careers effectively ended, Tommy, IMHO, had reak talents as a driver. I truly belive he could have had a major career. Dennis was a nice kid and an above average driver. Danny Eicco ended up in Fla. Got in trouble with the FBI down there, I think. Unsure about the other two. I knew Phil Bogner, Race fixing sleaze who I wouldnt talk to beyond discussing the weather,

I don't think Cat Manzi got an envelope he just bet against himself. His signal to whoever was betting was to sit with the out rider at Freehold. Some races you would think is it really possible. I remember the final to some series, he won almost every race leading up to the final and he had a choice of 5 or 6 and his pick was 1/5 and he got a 4th place check.

Cat Manzi was never a great drib=ver. Only a good cheat. why do you think he'a working for chancelleries?
