JF, nothing to fear about cataract surgery, most people get it these days and its a fairly easy procedure, they only will do one eye at a time. the recovery time from that is quick, one day for an eye bandage and a few weeks of eye drops. You will be gald you did it because it will improve your vision drastically.
If they caught the retina issue early, they can treat it to keep it at bey either by a shot or oral meds. It's not reversible but if they caught it early they can halt its advance. May I recommend start taking Preservision pills, 2 x per day.
