Whats your thoughts on the proposed new track ?
-
if it happens then good. we need a home in southern maine. right now the industry is not too stable. a new track will bring new hope. hope it brings more owners and fans.

It is a sport that has very little interest. A new track won't bring in any new owners or fans. Sorry.

if they're not going to the maine shitholes now
they won't go to a new shithole
-
Scarboro is the shithole of shitholes.
-
Big snow job and few people filling pockets just like shawn scott😞 fix what we have if sports betting. WAS NOT In the mix you couldn't find there's guys with search light! Lol. Rember promises we go from OXFORD!!
-
the builders of the propsed new track picture the track as part of an entertainment( casino eventually? ) and shopping complex. from what i understand sending the signal out and developing a handle that way will be the priority. the first step is getting racing dates at cumberland.
-
Plainridge has killed southern Maine racing. Can't blame trainers, owners, drivers, bettors and fans for leaving Scaboro. What the owners have done is reprehensible. They have sucked every last penny of the casino money and done nothing for racing. Bulldoze it down and just race in Bangor and expanded fair racing. Less is better.
-
If they issue 40 days to Cumberland full time racing over !! I won't winter 4 or 5 I guess we will know Thursday! If that happens Mr Timmons along with one or two other comish's will be indicted! (Facebook tape)Lets force downs to make improvements we have upper hand because they like everybody wants sports betting!
-
true that 40 days wont help, need 3 days a week for most of the year to help people to be able to afford to race in maine. plainridge has taken a lot of the horses away from maine but then again i would commute 3 hours each way for triple my income, and the compitition is basicly the same. scarborough has certainly bled every penny from the casino money into the terry family pockets.
-
Very true chief! We need commission to force downs, they should have to make improvement s or give up licence that's the only course the race track has been far the best surface in maine this year!
-
downs would be better if the current ownership was gone. it could be a decent place if cleaned up and run right.
-
plainridge is ope for the casino, they dont want racing
-
Anybody know what scratched Tee is? Cushing horse coupe races ago?

Anybody know what scratched Tee is? Cushing horse coupe races ago?
test exceeded ellowable

Trainer entry error.
-
Ty!
-
I should have brought popcorn to this hearing. Mike ( I'm not a crook) Timmons no show today. Just heard going to be put Under oath at next hearing! Jennings looks like he wants 2 hide some where! Lol quite a show jenning quite a joke! Time to leave drift is there will be no new track they're going to let the Downs clean up their act!
-
Never happen.
-
its complicated but i cant believe that scarborough will be open much longer. new construction is closing in on the downs from all sides. it would be insanity to stop the new track. timmons is a good man. he is for the horseman.
-
if not tied to a casino....not happening....alth ough may stay at current location!!!....dont believe that has been ruled out??......they mentioned a sports complex with concerts?...so who knows with sports gambling on the horizon.......the grandstand could be fixed say a good paint job and 30 to 40 k inmprovments place will look brand new.........maybe new name like "NewEngland Downs" presto .....we are off for the next 50 years
-
No way the current owners will spend a dime for paint or any other improvements. It is reprehensible how they have pocketed casino money. They have no integrity or morals or desire to improve facility. Tear it down.
-
its not just the grandstand. to continue racing the downs will need a totally new barn area. i cant imagine the state continuing to send money to scarborough when there is no sign of whay they did with the millions that they have already received. its time to move on and get behind first tracks investments.
-
Obviously you weren't there today read between the lines going to fight if they have to take it to court Cumberland isn't an option for anything with first turn the other outfit only in it for sports betting they will sell the license just like Shawn Scott to the highest bidder California!! Barnyard is a joke you won't even see 1 down below within one or two years commission needs to force a changes at Scarborough Downs it's the only choice to comercial racing in Maine next year don't kid yourself!
-
new tracks anywhere need the casino to survive. sports betting will just be a small band aid. RI got it and they are not making a big fortune on it. the plan at scarborough is that the track area will not be built on for a number of years. letting the current crooks run it will just keep things the same way it is now. no hope. cumberland could work if it is run right but who knows. at least the place is halfway decent. old but kinda cozy. would be cold nov thru april though. a summer time place.
-
Cumberland has been the "back-up plan" for years.
Awarding dates to Cumberland may be a good thing, causing disruption with the "business as usual" do-nothing Scabby Downs.
-
It is not economically feasible to invest in a harness track in year 2020 without a casino license......a recipe for failure......what bank would finance????none...
-
Cumberland is a joke everybody knows it terrible track no place to eat no place for simulcasting the only question here is Scarborough doesn't get the dates which commissioner will be indicted first? LOL
-
Racing in newfield at fishers would be better then Scarborough Scarborough is all done in 1 or 2 years no matter what if maine racing is gonna survive Scarborough has to close so we can get fresh blood
-
Good u race at billy's place! U need 70 plus days at a track! downs best surface in maine hands down. If they don't get days the Amish will be picking up better than 100 up here some will be mine! Sad but true!
-
It is past time just to FLUSH MAINE, if you cant race at a real track by now the sport really doesn't need you. Maine would be better off NOT seen or heard. It's history is nice to read about, so lets all go to a Library and forget about the joke of harness racing called Maine, the racing in Maine, is indeed a pain.... in the ass
-
You are a moron!! We be racing i maine long after your dead!!hopefully sooner than later! Maine is a great place to race and lots o good horseman ! I feel sorry for a hater like you!!
-
scarborough is not an answer. cumberland needs improvements but is the only ready to go option. cumby also has lights which has allways done better than just day racing. improving oxfords facilities and forcing oxford to be a racino is another short term option. state should have forced oxford to race since the day they got a casino. cumby and oxford are both a little out of the way. a new track close to a highway exit is the only long term soultion for maine. hope it happens in my life.

so harsh, yet true. The rain in maine falls mainly on insane. * it's actually barely a state - let alone qualified to have more than one track. look over the entries for a who's-who of has-been horses * just keepin' it real.
-
Odds of new track... 6/5
-
Wrong 1000 to 1 Scarborough has new 2year lease! After that 100 to 1!!! Only with sports betting!
-
YOU HAD A DECENT track in Maine -at OXFORD.
THE ISSUE WAS THE FOLKS RUNNING IT KNEW
LESS THAN NOTHING ABOUT IT>
AND YOU COULD NOT TELL THEM ANYTHING>
ONLY THING THEY KNEW IS LINE THEIR POCKETS
WITH THE PARKING MONEY_ TRUE STORY__
-
Absolutely we all know how that worked out these new guys are looking to do just the same and you can count on it !! Oxford look at the money them two grabbed ! Th NEW TWO just want to grab money let's fix what we have and hope the commission makes them make the changes
-
commission is as much the problem. just look at who gets to come to maine and race or drive, anyone. scarborough should not be allowed to run unless new people are running it. not the terry family. not anyone that is there now. cant think of one. maybe keep the mouth sweeny. not a fan of his so to speak but i do know he cares and does try.
-
Agreed chief commission is the main problem two of them will probably be indicted I'm trying to put money into their own pockets
-
looks like december19 and 20 are the big days at the racing commission. should be fun.
june - are you talking about 2 people on the commission or 2 people at scarborough?
-
LOL definitely the commission Bass! go to the tape ! We need. At the very least 78 days of racing at the. One track for full time racing. To survive Here! Just the bottom line
-
New tracks and casinos. The go to knee jerk reactions to fixing racing. Wrong, maybe a bigger track would help. But there's nothing you can do to change the basics of what racing is. And today it's antiquated and obsolete where the younger generation "that's the fan base you need if you want to survive" wants instant gratification and hands on interaction. Build a new track, you'll have an instant interest for a while, then the novelty will wear off and you're right back where you started. This is 2019, harness racing is in the same category as 8-track tapes, rotary phones and woodside station wagons.
-
Unfortunately sad but true😞

Fraternal clubs, Church committees all suffer same plight toward ruination as the harness racing sport. The insiders in the management and director positions live by but one rule. "That's the way we've always done it." That is it - simple as can be. No new ideas, no new blood, no advancement to the 21st century. AND, that right there is why the sport slots right in next to 8 track tapes, mood rings, smoking in supper clubs, rotary phones, The Lennon Sisters, sock hops and Sunday blue laws.
-
Oxford built a track, nothing else. It was all about a Casino. A new Southern Maine 5/8ths, clubhouse/grandstand, paddock, hotel,etc... Is a major investment that says ln it for the long run. Scarborough has faught tooth & nail to keep what theyve got. Ask yourself why. It's simple, cry poverty while making money. New blood, New money, New ideas... lt's coming to Maine.
-
great points. horse racing and boxing were kings in the 50's. things are different now. i still chose horses all the time. we have a small chance to survive bur its getting smaller every day. agree with big dom. terry family is making money while doing nothing for racing.
-
Too Tall will probably keep this in court till we are all dead. What a shithead he is.
-
I think someone needs to slap his face
-
Big Dom it's all about the sports betting license nothing more nothing less let's not kid ourselves I'd rather take the shore thing for a couple years more and Pie in the Sky
-
the only thing sports betting will do is bring some people to the track to bet sports. the actual money that will flow down to purses ectra is little. ri in the first month handled 30+ million and the take for everyone to split was a little over 1 million. maine, in the winter wont come close handlewise. so yes it will help but nothing like slot machines. i hope that something good will happen. things will get tied up in courts so lets just hope.
-
Business plan was in motion LONG before sports betting came to Augusta. Sports betting will be in every OTB, Casino and Elks Lodge. Wouldnt it be alot wiser to open or buy an existing OTB to acquire sports betting, than to spend millions on land, permits and massive infrastructure? I know this news is disappointing to the sports Doomsdayers, but it's happening.
-
sports betting is in the elks now, just not legally.
-
Lol correct chief
-
Big Dom nobody's building track for racing! just to sell off the license and make a profit ! everybody sees that clear as day nobody's drinking the Kool-Aid LOL
-
broken promises shawn scott, oxford. all comes down to the gaming comission, harness commision state in general needs to put their foot down. i have said before about oxford and how were they ever allowed to drop the big long 4 day meet. oxford should have been required to race an extended meet to have the casino. june is right just get the thing past and sell out. if the terry family had any brains then scarborough would have wined and dine ed and taken care of the local folks. run a nice facility and by now it would have had a casino. right off the highway. 90 miles from boston. done right and we would have had a strong industry for years to come. full circle the comission should have stepped in years ago. funny too, to think the terry family was greedy for every easy dollar. that place could have ended up worth hundreds of millions.
-
So we've gone from "Wont be built" , to it" will be built just to be sold off". Im confused. And another year or two of a GUARANTEED demolition is better than a NEW facility that will just later be sold... lt's like saying l'm driving to Boston in my 1973 Buick, with a 1/4 tank of gas and the Check Engine light on ON. And your neighbor offers to loan you his 2019 Ford with a Full tank. . And you say, Screw That l won't drive a Ford.
-
Yes absolutely I'll stick with what I got because I'd be wondering why would you let me drive that new truck when he sees what I drive now ! I would be suspicious of his motives or their motives get it LOL
-
Aahh. Yup, l got it! The Terry's ARE the best option. Now get it. Changedmy mind.
Good bye HossPlop
-
Dom,there sure are a whole lot of rocket scientists in this world.Hope the commission grows a set of balls.Good luck in this endeavor.
-
scarborough might be the best option, but not without new owners, management and employees. until everyone there is gone the track cannot change.
-
I'll be at Scabby downs this weekend, cant wait to punch out tickets in the SAM machine that came out when Atari launched...
-
as bad as the grandstand the paddock area is a thousand times worse. its time to shut the place down and give the dates to cumberland. no more money for scarborough. cant wait for december 19 and 20.
-
U must be crazy after Gerry s Cumberland fairs responds they shouldn'tget fair dates ! U will continue to race down below while we get 40 days! horsemans assoc. Is not representing horseman just there own interests you're try to sell us swamp land deal !! everybody know commission and Jennings and miles are in on fix!! we will end up with noting next year! It will in court for years ! I to. Can'twait for 19 and 20th ill know like everybody else weather o call Ivan (Amish)!! Your doing this all to help 2 guy who could care less about horseman!! just to line there pockets! They Will never built a new track!! Take that to bank!
-
Look Dom Bass and chief we all want full-time racing in Maine if this group would apply for race 78 days of Cumberland and Cumberland would fix the track put in simulcasting place in a place to eat I'm all for it !! but that would be the only plan I would back!
-
good luck punching tickets in any sam at scarborough rabbit. should have odds on weather it takes your money. takes your voucher. credits either. lets you punch a ticket. has any dollar amounts or numbers working. and if anyone will fix anything if you lose your money ticket or voucher in said machine.
i agree that this whole cumberland thing is fiction. i have said that if cumberland was to be the place for racing it would not take a lot to have it function. the old club upstairs can still serve food. to set up for the otb races would be easy. and i totally think that maine needs at least 3 days a week from march till christmas from its major track, whoever it is. i think 78 days is too little and scarborough should never have been allowed to go that low.
i also think nights in the summer at least are a must. the days of fairs in the afternoon and scarborough at night were great.
-
AGREED!!! CHIEF
-
nite racing is a good way to lose money, most bettors are preparing for bed.
-
scarborough in the summer did well with the beach/tourist crowd at night. it did help that the clubhouse was open and food was good. it is true that most of the true fan base is ready for bed early.
-
Agreed night racing not feasible maybe an early a post like three o clock might help night racing just a thing of the past too many things for people to do with their kids
