of course even though they are open casinos will take a while to recover
however racing appears safe and at least is keeping people employed

Calhoun told you a week ago.

Not enough stupid people around to go to Casinos/Virus test tubes.
there are plenty of stupid people to go around, the truth is Tioga is the only profitable casino in New York state.  DelLago is broke, Resorts Catskill is broke and Shanghai Johnny hasn't helped, Rivers was barely hanging on and Tioga, although it was making money is getting crushed financing racing at 2 tracks.

Purse cuts aren't helping cover the bills

When you have dopes like Brett Risi as racing operations director you must know the end is near.
I'm surprised Vernon Downs wasn't first to go.

Nothing more than a NY State Labor Law requirement. It is in no way a notice to close down.

You don't have to worry about purse cuts any longer.

NYSDOL stating Tioga Downs Racetrack permanently closing Oct. 1 Posted: Jul 16, 2020 / 02:49 PM EDT / Updated: Jul 16, 2020 / 02:51 PM EDT

TIOGA DOWNS, NEW YORK (WETM-TV)- The New York State Department of Labor announced that Tioga Downs will be closing their racetrack on October 1 due to “unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by COVID-19″.

There was nothing in the release that stated any updates on the casino portion of Tioga Downs at this time.

Most recently Tioga Downs re-closed their hotel to the public and they are still not taking reservations following Governor Cuomo’s announcement that casinos will remain closed.

Per Bill Finley:

reports that Gural intends to close Tioga permanently inaccurate. Because casinos in NY are closed, Gural says he's losing $ at Vernon and Tioga and has taken steps that would allow him to lay off employees and close early, On Oct. 1.
Once casinos open, VD and TD should be fine.

Here you go, haters.

Jeff Gural, owner of Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs, emphatically told harnessracing.com Friday afternoon that despite published reports that indicated both New York racetracks would be closing on Oct. 1, that is not the case.

“We’re not closing!” Gural answered when asked about the reports that appeared after paperwork was filed on Monday (July 13) with the New York Dept. of Labor under the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification law, known as the WARN Act.

“Typically, when companies that are going out of business, they have to send out WARN notices that they are going out of business, so they just assumed we were going out of business,” Gural said about reaction to the filing of required paperwork.

While both Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs have reopened for live racing—without spectators—after being shut down due to the covid-19 pandemic, the casinos at both sites have remained closed due to state regulations. As a result, more than 600 employees at Tioga Downs and more than 300 at Vernon Downs received furlough notices in March when both sites closed.

Under the WARN Act, the employees who were furloughed or laid off in March will be terminated on Sept. 30, thus the paperwork was filed.

“When you furlough your employees, they are automatically terminated after six months,” said Gural. “And then if you terminate you have to give WARN notice, so this is a legal requirement.”

Gural said while racing has resumed, without casino revenue he admits he isn’t sure how much longer he can keep the racetracks open. And while is remaining cautiously optimistic, he hasn’t been given any assurances from Gov. Andrew Cuomo as to when that might happen.

“Having said all this, I don’t know how I can keep going with the place closed,” said Gural. “I lose money every day keeping the racing going. I can’t open at all and we’re losing a fortune.”

Gural's losing tons each day.

Stop the Welfare.

Let them run for handle purses.

$200,000 x 5% = Daily Purses = $10,000

$10,000/day is your non-Welfare purse structure.

Yes, i hate Welfare.
