The Belmont renovations included accommodations for winter racing. Take a closer look at that, once Aqueduct receives an actual gaming license what does that tell you?
if any of you is old enough you remember there was a crude dirt training track behind the paddock building at yr. mgm has mega money. a good plan would be to scrap the entire grandstand and track and build a new grandstand and 1 mile track roughly where that old training track was. then they can use the footprint of the existing track and grandstand for a big new hotel and casino
Where exactly will the hotel, restaurants, theater and shopping go? Do you really think they're staying within the footprints of the existing buildings? And where do you think they will make more money, a full blown Casino/Resort with all those entertainment amenities people actually want with headline events, or a harness track. Even if this is 3 years down the road, that goes by pretty fast.
I used to live on the upper west side near Columbia university for 25 years. it took me 12-15 minutes to drive to yr. do you think perhaps there will be a draw for the 8-10 million people of nyc to travel 15 minutes to experience a top notch gambling mecca, perhaps the only one of its kind on the east coast? within driving distance of perhaps 25-35 million people.
100% agree, and will not include a racetrack. This is a corporation that plays by solid numbers and is responsible for protecting stockholders. Nothing will be given, unless the horsemen can walk in like businessmen and present a viable proposal that proves there's money to be made. You know how many acres a mile track covers? And yes I know where the old jog track was. Overlay a mile on the property, think MGM will give up one square inch? What sounds good for "us" won't sound good for them.
Missing the point, he did what he had to do. It worked. Point is when it comes down to it with enough support from the board any moratorium can be lifted. Any limit can be lifted. And if that happens...let's just say they won't be crying about keeping the barns at Yonkers. Unless you want to jog in the parking lot.
