No money being put into tracks for maintenance. Tracks thaw out and their is no base, so mud is too deep, surface inconsistent. You are right, if they are not going to keep up the track and facilities, close, stop the embarrassment.

its sad too see the industry go down the drain this way. winter racing does require effort, a good trackman{rare these days} and money. just close for the winter if you are not going to try. i remember the tracks being slow but safe years ago in dead of winter then spring mud but they were safe and consistaint thru out.

As temps spike ( we had 50 degree yesterday ) the frost goes out of the ground, creating soft spots in the track. This has nothing to do with the base as no track has 3 feet of drainage stone (3 feet is the frost line in NY) its mother nature get over it. If you guys ran the track, all the horses would have broken legs.
