Lazarus N captures 25th Dan Patch Stakes
Friday, August 10, 2018 - by Kim French, for Hoosier Park Racing & Casino

Anderson, IN --- On a gorgeous Friday evening (Aug. 10) in which it appeared a presence from above intervened to provide perfect conditions, Lazarus N, the Wonder from Down Under, anointed himself as a true superstar with an impressive 1:48.4 performance in the $325,000 Dan Patch Stakes at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino before a legion of admirers in his first pari-mutuel engagement in the U.S.
He also owns the distinction of being the only horse to pace sub-1:50 miles in two different hemispheres.

“One of the reasons I decided to buy this horse with my brothers was because we are devoutly Catholic,” said Duncan Taylor, whose Taylor Made Farms owns the 6-year-old stallion. “First of all his name is Lazarus which represents a miracle, and his dam’s name is Bethany, which is the location where the resurrection took place. Then Bethany’s sire is Christian Cullen. These factors made it appear as if (purchasing the horse) was meant to be a gift from God.”

So a presence from above intervened to provide perfect conditions? 43z.stf

You mean like a warm front with dry air pushing out a cold front after it rains? angbk

Or commonly known as "Weather" to the rest of us. ngc3 ngc3

Devout Catholics gambling and participating in harness racing.....obviou sly god must approve. angbk

Lazarus represents a miracle? I hope this horse never wins another race! 11.wp

Purchasing this horse was meant to be a gift from god? Sure to his former owners! tmbz1

When their multi million dollar purchase runs out of the good M&M's and fails in the breeding shed because he is a product of "Da Shit" as Casie Coleman calls it, I hope "god" issued them a gift receipt with an unlimited return policy.

Well we know Swoodtard didn’t bet him now. You jealous loser, I’d love to see this horse break every record out there. Might actually give the sport a shot in the arm if they market it correctly

he's not going to help the sport -- nothing will

Wiggle vs Miki, did nothing

Foiled Again, did nothing

Now my take..... He was not great last night, the older age group is not very strong -- BUT Lazarus had every excuse to not be at 100% and I think we are just touching the surface of what he could be.... But I don't see much challenge to him if he's healthy... Future races are going to see him getting better trips as drivers lineup to race for second money.

Lather Up -- I loved his qualifier against Lazarus. When Laz went around him and Montrell touched L.U. with the whip and got back on Gingras shoulder, that impressed me.   BUT HE'S A 3 YEAR OLD.   Will he stay sound ? Do any of the Teague horses stay sound long ? I don't know, I have seen teagues bring in Ohio breds over the last couple of years, fast at first and I don't see many of them around later.... I could be wrong.

Tonight should be a great race at Northfield, better quality field.

Nice horse, he's no Always B Miki! And Lather Up will rip his heart out when they face off! Even with the handicap of Montrell steering! If Sears or ANYONE else drove Lather Up, he'd break the world record!
Wherever your going i came back already!

Correct. Lather up has no chance against him.

The horse was off for months down there before he came up

Gingras told the owner he only does what he has to. He is a very smart horse. I have seen enough horses in my life to know this horse goes around 46 in his sleep.

I did laugh reading that one of the reasons they purchased him was they are devout Catholics with the Lazarus, Bethany and Christian Cullen. OK, really. I would mnot buy a horse going on religion.
No offense now and maybe Lazarus was short as well as not all out but he beat a really mediocre group of FFA pacers yesterday.

Deal A Winner can't beat these any longer
Bechkhams Z Tam may be the worst horse to ever win a Breeders Crown race
Split the House can't beat Open pacers
Rockin Ron and Bit of A Legend are short track horses
All Bets Off is now 7 and should be 1,000 to 1 vs these.

That leaves McWicked who is good but still needs his trip to win.  Filibuster and E L Hanover plus Rockin Ron x 2 are his beats in his wins and they can't beat these.

Canadian Pacing Derby and Allerage are probably it for him.  Maybe Pocono if he's still good and they are sporting owners but I doubt they put him on a short track.

Mohawk is 146.4 - Dr J Hanover
Lex is 146.0 - Always B Miki

If he doesn't set the record at Mohawk and at least shade Miki's time, then you have to ask what the hell is the point of the entire $4,000,000.00 exercise?

So far, he's beat a tripped out Split the House and a rough-tripped McWicked.  That is not "SHOW THE WORLD" level stuff.

Yeah well,
everyone has an opinion. Please leave out the money part when talking about watching a horse race! They spent 7 MiLLiON on a horse named (Green Monkey?) and all he was good for was making fertilizer like a 4 claimer! I watched the qualifier between these two. Lather Up was running over him! Personally, I thought Lather Up broke down when he made a break in the  Hempt!  Teague camp seems to have corrected this! Only time will tell and that is also the reason that they run the race!  tmbz1
Stay tuned,,,,

Nonsense.

He better set some records here.  How many 1:48.2 sons of Bettors Delight does the US market need or want?

Aside from the 3 in his race last night?

Then there's Betting Line at $10k  Plus the real thing at $15k.

So, tell us, what is the break even production for a $4 Million stallion?

You look like a fool here.

No you look like the fool here!!    The horse is already guaranteed to get 400 mares a season in AUS/NZ standing at 12k+.   simple math will lead you to a profit, even if he's a dud at stud!   first few years are no risk

ONLY ONE HORSE CAN STOP HIM BEATING 1:46

Lazarus becoming fastest pacer in history
11 August 2018
by Michael Guerin

The man enjoying the ride behind Kiwi pacing sensation Lazarus says only one horse may be able to stop him becoming the fastest pacer in history.

And that would be Lazarus himself.

Champion driver Yannick Gingras was still buzzing hours after driving Lazarus to a dominant victory in his first North American start, the pair overcoming the outside barrier to lead for the last half of the US$325,000 Dan Patch at Hoosier Park in Indiana on Saturday afternoon (NZ time).

It was Lazarus’s first start in the United States since being sold for an estimated record price of $4million to Taylor Made Stallions.

While he had been the best standardbred in Australasia for two years and qualified in sensational time in the US two weeks ago, any horse traveling to the other side of the world to take on their best comes with question marks.

Lazarus turned those into exclamations marks with his 1:48.8 mile.

The win has already justified his purchase price because with North American breeders now seeing how powerful Lazarus is in full flight he is guaranteed a commercial start to a dual hemisphere stallion career.

That leaves the $3.8million earner with just a couple of major targets that could greatly embellish his reputation — winning at the Breeders Crown in late October and pacing a super fast mile time, close to the world record of 1:46 held by Always B Miki.

But while Gingras says that time may be within Lazraus physical capabilities, the horse himself might need some company.

“A lot of things need to happen to get down to that speed but I think he can do it,” Gingras said.

“I have no doubt with the improvement he has in him he can pace 1:46 and change, maybe even 1:46 flat.

“But to do that you need the right track, the right conditions and the right horses to push you.

“Tonight he would have gone a lot faster if he had needed to and I think he is a horse who will always find more when another horse gets close to him and pushes him.

“So to pace 1:46 he will need all of those things and a horse good enough to push him to that time. Otherwise I don’t think he is a horse who will want to go much faster than he has to to win.

“But anything is possible because he had only had that one qualifier here before tonight’s race so he is obviously going to get better and better.”
Lazraus’s next starts are likely to be in the heat and final of the Canadian Pacing Derby on August 25 and September 1 and yesterday’s win guarantees him a start in the Hoosier Park Derby on September 21.

After that looms the US$500,000 major free-for-all at the rocket fast Red Mile (October 7) in Kentucky, the ideal track to attempt a lightning quick mile.

“Tonight was the perfect starting point. He won, we got to show people how good he is but he wasn’t put under any strain.”

What was it like driving the Kiwi hero?

“It is a real thrill. Driving any great horse is amazing but the novelty around him tonight and the way the race was promoted, and knowing so many people Down Under were watching. It was pretty special.”
