Post by: Zoooooming By! on June 10, 2018, 12:26:51 PM
If a horse is entered into a claiming race and becomes AE, could that horse still be claimed?

Rules are different today. Years ago I claimed one scratched in NH. They called the trainer and told him to bring the horse to the paddock. Needless to say he was pissed. I won 4 in a row moving up each start.

Scratching a horse out of a claiming race does not protect someone from claiming that horse his next start for the scratched price regardless of new claiming price or even if entered in a condition race. Only type of scratch that will protect you is race office error. The only way to avoid having your horse claimed the next race after scratching is you must leave horse out 30 days. Even shipping to another track after scratching won't protect you.
You are correct.

If you go to the judges with a check or a claim form with money in your account, you can take that horse home

Once the entry is made, someone can buy that horse

You can claim a scratched horse.  They have 24hrs to bring horse to track for you to inspect and they have option to take horse.  I know because it happened to me.
They ain’t letting you INSPECT the horse before you decide to claim. If you tell the judges you want to claim the scratched horse and they call the trainer and tell him to bring the horse to the track, he’s your horse. Ain’t no inspecting just as if you were claiming him at the track in the evening.
