It just seems when a claim is entered, they race the steed a little harder. I know we did.

everyone Keeps saying Ohio change this, Ohio change that, meanwhile PA doesn't announce claims until offical. Thats how it should be everywhere. Now Can Somebody explain to me how that will help the betting public?

I'm not sure if the same issues that existed 25 years ago exist now.
I found out somebody had put a claim on Flapper so we assumed he was gone after the race.
But when the race was over and Flapper was up the track there was no claim announced.
So I checked in the racing office and they told me the claim had been disallowed.
Apparently the claim slip wasn't filled out correctly so it was rejected.
The next week another claim was put in on him and this time it cleared.
I would think the process is easier now given all records are kept in a database.
Seems like it would only take a few seconds to check to see if you are licensed and have the money.

What is the % of winners who are claimed from that race? I don't think it is as great an angle as it once was. I notice more claimed horse get sent and used hard to come up empty. So, maybe the angle is to through out the claimed horse.

Two sides to the story! Gambler's and some horsemen feel the information is useful, but that is questionable because knowing that information before the race certainly effects the strategy and further complicates handicapping. If the claim is unknown, things should unfold in a more reliable pattern aiding the bettors! Furthermore, it invites participants to gut the horse because he is gone after the race and they don't care or just wish bad luck to the claimant! Either way, it is usually elementary because unscrupulous judges often release this information to a couple of their cronies and the word gets out early!

Lindsey Kerr drove all the way from Leamington to Flamboro last year to claim one off Terry Gallant.
When Gallant heard his horse was claimed he scratched it after warming up.
Dick move.
