I listened to those CBS stretch calls for years.  They were just after the sports news? Crazy how far things have come and how far harness has demised from it's popularity.

It is a terrible shame. Harness racing was always a better fit for the regular guys and gals. Thoroughbred racing was always a rich person sport as it is today. As a harness guy I appreciated that I could see the races without the benefit of tv monitors, binoculars etc. The programs were so much easier to understand than the racing form. Sure harness had a lot of games going on in the 60’s and 70’s but at least it wasn’t about designer steroid drugs. Great but manageable crowds in those days with plenty of promotions at the smaller tracks. It is all gone now and will certainly die off as us older fans do the same.

My feelings exactly  I never understood T-bred guys who didn't "get" harness racing.

1010 WINS and CBS 88  gave the results at 10 minuets before and 20 minuets after the hour. Or call, 212-976-1212 OTB.
Sports Eye was the harness bible.

Mike Remy was a great guy. Pandy was and still is a jackass. Jack Rubin was a legend. I never met him but I read every column every day.

Please let me clarify my position. I despise thorough bred racing.

That the legendary trotter, Ideal du Gazeau wins his 3rd consecutive RR International Trot by sitting the entire mile and a quarter on the outside of his country mate and wears him down in the stretch to win decisively. Gosh, i can still remember where i was standing watching it in disbelief. Great grilled pretzel on the way out too. Nathans for a hot dog! A great night.
I still think the late Jack E Lee was the best announcer I ever heard. Pigland calls those pretzels diesel pretzels.
I remember the track program used to have coupons for that Nathans, my favorite was the 2 for 1 chickabuns
