LucPark it had nothing to do with the concert. The fair races were cancel,Ed again due the rain and bad weather. We’re racing them st Hawthorne the first week. It’s all because of the dam rain.

Not true pal. The horseman are the ones who voted to cancel. After what’s been happening with tragedies in harness racing they aren’t taking any more chances. My uncle was down there and said everything is flooded out.

The USTA says it was due to weather and other time constraints

Others here said horsemen voted to cancel and its now moved to Hawthorne.

So which is it ?

First of all, the horsemen had ZERO input in the decision to cancel the races. It was a joint decision by the State Fair officials including Jerry Costello, Rebecca Clark and Tim Norman along with some input by the IRB and Hawthorne. Original Post Time was 10:00am. It was told that the track could be ready by 11:30am-Noon.
However, they were under severe time restraints and the races had to be concluded by 2:30 pm the latest in
order for the preparation of the Tim McGraw concert. With 18 races scheduled there was no way they could have completed the entire card. Thus, the horsemen lose as well as the breeders as a majority of expected yearling purchasers will have a lot less cash in their pockets because of this and the total lack of necessary racing opportunities that were available this summer.

Finally someone that has valuable input as to the happenings.  Shouldn't the fair have planned this better? Allowing for alternate days? Seems that the Horseman's Association should request a race date to be completed at the fair grounds and Purses distributed.
