Shipping charges
« on: August 12, 2018, 12:14:11 AM »
I am curious what the difference is in shipping charges in different parts of the country. I am getting out of touch. It. Used to be fifty bucks round trip to go from balmoral to may wood, now it is more than that to go one way from balmoral to Hawthorne. For people out east, we are talking about roughly forty mile drive. Any input?

you kidding me?

here's an example. from central nj to yonkers its 74 miles one way. in that distance you have 60$ worth of roundtrip  turnpike tolls, $80 in bridge tolls, and $40 or so in gas. then you have wear and tear on your rig and the pleasure of dealing with the most ignorant drivers in the u.s.. not to mention the 8 hours or so of time involved .for that is $250 a horse unreasonable?

A dollar fifty a loaded mile plus tolls is a good rate for shorter hauls! Long distances are usually a set rate! Operating expenses for shippers are off the wall!

If you can't afford to ship our horse, you cannot afford your horse.  If you even question the cost, you cannot afford the horse.  This is why harness racing is failing.  It is filled with owners who cannot afford to own one of the most famous trappings of wealth.....a racehorse.   Racehorses belong only to people who don't look at prices.  That is not to say that an owner should expect to get ripped off, but when you walk into Cartier, you're going to get ripped off because it's Cartier or Rolex.  It's expected and that is the cost of playing around in the world where people are supposed to be rich.

Spoke to Takters groom saturday and he got paid a whopping 75 bucks to take the winner of the 400k from Jersey to Ohio then proceed to Lexington and bed down 15 stalls!. I know it was Jimmy's rig,but that is still 15 hours of driving with the groom with no per-diem! I would bet the owners were billed at least 4x that!.

Takter treats his help like indentured servants, and many of them are just that.  That kind of abuse should be reported to the labour authorities.   He is virtually running a slave work camp.

That price is hard to believe! $75.00 is the usual price for prepping 15 stalls alone! I'd have to question the accuracy of that report!

Takter is known for poor pay to his help.  ;D

People who don't ask what the charges are usually get charged double or more. People that have money didn't get it by being a fucking idiot, so go back to your home.. I mean carnival tent and finish pumping your sister while I finish power washing your mamas tonsils
