Check out the link on YouTube. It was posted by the AGCO Judges along with an explanation as to why the race was declared "Official" instead of what it should've been, a no contest.  Their reasoning? They spoke to the five drivers who finished and those drivers declared that they "did not hear the siren or light until close to the finish."

What a disgrace.

First of all, you don't "hear" lights, you see them.

Second of all, what did you expect them to say? The five of them all got cheques and earned their pays. Since when is it the job of the participants to govern the races?

This race absolutely should have been a no contest, particularly with the incident involving horses at the front of the pack, particularly with it being the first leg of the Pick Four, but the Judges don't even know what a Pick Four is for Christ sake. The horses that comprised the superfecta weren't getting any money until the leader bowling-pinned those that were. Just another example of poor governance that ultimately leads to chasing the paying customer away.

not sure I understand your point
actually agree with judges( that's a rarity for me)
calling a no contest is a very slippery slope
this was a accident that occurred during the race
enough horses finished to allow payouts on all wagers( superfecta etc )
shit happens in races, bettor beware as they say
in my opinion there was no need to have the lights or sirens flashing , the horses we well inside the last 1/4 mile so there was not going to be  any further incident  or harm to drivers or horses with them finishing the race, would be different if it happened early in the race  and they had to go around again and there was a driver or horse lying on the track
we have all seen horses break and interfere with other horses, it happens , they are not going to refund those horses or call a no contest
if I owned the race winner I would be saying damn right give me my winners cheque
