HISA article today on USTA site
« on: February 09, 2024, 07:21:15 PM »
Interesting read.  TB trainer in business for 50 years with practically no previous infractions quits the business.  This is the reason harness racing needs to continue to fight against HISA.

I think that’s the reason harness needs HISA. Burke has 15 + positive ranging from class 4. - Class 1

HISA is just a leveraging agent to completely ruin horses as a sport. Having these people in your face wanting to know the last time your horse took a shit and what color it was is going over the top. It’s going to become so micromanaged people are just going to give up. Then the wacko activists win, and thousand upon thousands of horses will be retired with no future and sent to Europe to be on a plate.

Over the last decade Pimental has won an average of 6 races a year.

Over what period of time?  Last year alone he had 5053 starts and he has umpteen people working for him. Nearly every positive is for typical vet treatment protocol.  Some horses hold medication in their system longer than others.  If you get sick you take medicine to get better.  What's he supposed to do..not treat his horses?

Trainer responsibility is absolute and Gabapnetin 3X is not an accident nor is the mulitple anti phycotics.  How about the needles and syringe he was caught with at the meadows?

He should be racing sick horses, if the meds are still in them that’s his responsibility to make sure they’re not entered . 2nd exactly what sickness is Gabapetin treating, or the biscarb positive , or the opiate positive. What’s sickness are those for.
I don’t care if he had 50,000 starts last year. Rules are rules

I think it is time Burke regroups a bit and reduces his operation. With the sensitive testing and low thresholds, running a stable around the country, with to many opportunities for mistakes.
Now having a longer than desired trail of positives, the system demands progressive penalties. A smaller, tighter operation is advisable.

I agree, or he should list others under his employment as trainer at each track.  Keeps him off the hook and still allows him to run things without penalty.

USTA has never given Thoroughbreds so much coverage... That's right, they are trying to keep HISA our of Harness Racing.

Because are own industry does such a great job of policing themselves.   ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

The ones who do not want HISA, are the ones with something to hide. The industry brought this on itself.

Absolutely correct!  The fucking cheats and those who protect them want nothing to do with an outside agency policing the sport!   tmbz1

We absolutely need HISA. The industry has made it clear it will not clean up itself.

On point! An industry that polices itself without moral or integrity, Will be its own demise. Harness Racing has failed over and over, and over again, to adapt, and adopt procedures and policies that not only provide a fair and level playing field. But, one that reduces monopolization of breeding farms, sales companies, and yes of course stables, "too big to fail". This all stops when you remove the current President of the USTA, who operates in a capacity, NOT for the Betterment of the industry and sport. But, for the continuation of lining his own pockets and remaining at the helm to control, or minimize legislative acts, that might diminish or equitably level the field for all.

Our own policing after the FBI did all the work to put in jail a lot of trainers and vets ---- and yet has there been a single trainer that bought off Surick and others been penalized .......

Or business as usual -- nothing to see here.....

So has HISA changed any of these issues in the Tbred industry?
