Mission de-Briefing!
« on: October 03, 2023, 12:27:45 PM »
Hunterton and partners not only bred Mission Brief, they have retained her as a broodmare. Hunterton’s Steve Stewart said Mission Brief is, “the gift that keeps on giving... Going into the sale, we thought that she was a very, very nice filly. We knew that there’s not many Gimpanzees and people like to buy first crops.
“The mare is just amazing. She’s sold yearlings for $400,000, $725,000, $550,000 and now $800,000. That has got to be some kind of record.”------Her offspring are NOT amazing! The first 3 earned, $88,000, $29,000, and did not race!  Some return on their investment. Melander's owners bought the last 3 at $2 million! There is not much retaining of breeding value when the mothers do little on the race track.  They need $2.2 MILLION in purses won with this latest purchase to get back all of their money which most likely will NEVER happen!

The two that raced trotted sub 53. The fillies are still probably worth 150-250 as broodmares. Keep in mind Moni Maker didn’t light the world on fire as a dam starting out but has a plethora of daughters and granddaughters that are great producers.

Gimpanzee is the fourth foal out of Mission Brief and will be the third straight one trained by Marcus Melander.
“I’ve spent $2 million total on those three that I bought,” Melander said. “We started with Jaya Bae that we bought for $725,000, then Vic Zelenskyy last year [for $550,00]. They are great-looking horses. Vic Zelenskyy is just 2 and he’s a little bit big and immature, but he’ll race next year.
“[Kadena is] just a gorgeous filly, so of course I have high hopes for her.”---------how can you not be ashamed to say this?  $117,000 back on a $2 million investment!

Sub 1:53s is 15 lengths behind where champions have to be and they are 4 and 3 now and earned peanuts. The track record is dismal. Breeders love these lunatics.

How true. Yes a gift for Steve Stewart, and the demise of alot of money down the tubes.  Eventually no matter how much you have, this becomes a turn off.
