Does anyone remember Richard Young wrote a letter to Hoof Beats criticizing Bill Robinson, then the next month Robinson replies and tore him apart. It was classic.
-
I got confused!! I thought this Richard Young was the former Illinois horseman, who went by the nickname "Spike." This was back in the 70s, so it can't be him, maybe a son or relative. Anybody old enough on this forum remember Richard "Spike" Young???

He was at the track every night, hung out with Larry McCarthy and all the big gamblers!! I remember one little skinny Jewish kid with glasses. Used to fire away like there was no tomorrow!! Another guy was Bob Stratta!! I was there every night, with Uncle Jimmy and Larry LoCascio!! What a cast of characters!! I got tons of stories!!!

How do you think Bill Robinson compares to todays trainers, as far as the , I say this loosely, all the medication violations.
Poisoned shaving’s, that seemed to just magically stop.
No commission in the world would have believed Bill on that one

Bill Robinson - 2,738 wins in 8,998 starts - SCARY! Essentially 1 out 3 career - SCARY

Bill Robinson's association with Carl Conte jr was a bad look

Big Bill was always a few years a head of everyone in terms of training, rigging one up, nutrition, gas, always trying to improve. Had the best training track going, surface was impeccable. A horse would race for a trainer on a Saturday night and not race well, owner would send it to Bills farm on Sunday, stay there all week, go back to said trainer Saturday morning and race that night for said trainer.......nob ody would be any wiser. Cashed a few tickets on them horses.
