Always buy the ones who shit on stage during the auction...Fool proof method...then take whatever you bought and give it Teague so he can put them on the Barry Bonds regimen.

Best Advice
-
if ur looking for serious answers:
the longer the pastern, the faster the horse.
the greater the angle of the pastern to the ankle joint, the more likely to be injured.
no foot no horse. good, evenly symetric hoof with good solid walls
the engine drives the truck. nice big muscular ass
good distance between eyes shows a capacity for intelligence. smart goes a long way on the track
good thick long tail. never saw a good horse with a rat tail
-
its not the horse its the trainer,
-
i must disagree. ive always felt the moment a foal hits the ground they either are or arent. only so much a trainer can do to help one and the good ones overcome bad trainers.

Zoot ... The best eventually have a stride where they reach out, not up and out. Can you see that in a video at this age or does that develop during training?
-
in my opinion, obviously, the length of pastern is a constant throughout a horse's career. adjustments to stride and motion up and down are made by lengthening or shortening the toe the horse is carrying. at one time, shoeing a standardbred was an art form. not so much these days.

Stand behind Brian Brown and just keep raising your hand. Then when he turns around to look you do the same.

Long pastern yes can equal a fast horse but also the breakdown or the immature of a 2yr old can make that frustrating. I think I remember that was one trait of Tactial Landing when he sold? Videos when they can cover ground have some bounce and there feet aren't on the ground very long.

Take a chance on the ones the big shots don't like. If they have decent breeding its worth taking a chance.
Low price cause no one is bidding on them and you can take a shot with a few for low cost. The big shots are not always right, and you might end up with one they didn't like that turns out to be a real good one. Colts are an added bonus.

I'm taking notes:
"big round ass"
"large deep throat"
"hot new young stallions"

My point exactly!

Confirmation is vital along with pedigree depth. Use the videos to rule out horses, but not to jump a poor bred, poorly put together colt to the top, just because it paces all day. These farms know how to get them to look great in the field. Body length, at least for pacers, is underrated and important. Hard for horses to pace fast when they're built to crossfire and interfere.
-
Also, the "big" barns go for what I consider, the "obvious" lookers. You can pretty much call what barns will get which colts based on top looks, with equal pedigree depth. They're always the more well developed, bigger boned, "thick" yearlings. I agree they look good, but you can find value in finer boned, well put together individuals, that meet your criteria.

You are correct.....yearl ing sales are a very crooked business.
A few years ago I looked at 40 horses who were Million dollar race winners, (Hambo, NA Cup, etc.) I forget the exact numbers but it was around an average $45K yearling, the mare was average 12 yrs old when horse was foaled and it was average the 5th foal.

Don't go after a full brother or sister of a champion, for HUGE BUCKS

Thanks so much for the kind words. Fingers crossed some of them do indeed pan out. It can be a tough game as everyone knows. Very happy with what we got. Good luck to you with your purchases as well.

They were practically giving away some really good horses yesterday. Must have sucked for the breeders. Virgil didn't buy anything. Some bigger trainers were there but they only bought one or two. Not sure why Ohio hasn't garnered more interest given the large amounts of stakes money and the Stallion series tier.

The east coast don't want to make that trek hell they hate shipping to the Meadows. It's been a regional state with Burke usually the big out of town player because he is close to the Meadows. Takter had the best My MVP, there haven't been many, but he raced all his races GC. I don't remember him once in the OHSS. Tony will have some Racing Hill stock this year. Will be interesting next season to see who What the Hill attracts as buyers.
-
Also Downbytheseaside and Fear the Dragon. Jug sale will have new sale records next year. If Racing Hill does well his freshman season there maybe some bargains on other pacer yearlings.

Thank you sir, the smaller buyers had a chance to bring home some nice stock that would have been 2x or 3x what same breeding would collar in Lex or H'burg.
Would be thrilled to see you continue to thrive with your new purchases, Roc- you too, with whatever you buy this year.

I agree with that for the most part but one good exception would be Angus Hall, Conway Hall and Andover Hall but that mare Amour Angus was a beautiful looking specimen and just my opinion that I would take an Andover Hall over the other two any day but you obviously you could not go wrong as Conway Left Windsong's Legacy then Chapter Seven. That whole family is something else
