Exactly how much cash did Lachance try to smuggle over the border?--How was this resolved?

Thanks for the memory of Pan Am Sam--i would go to Garden St Park and watch the simulcast from M1--Sam was one of my faves back in those days. This was before ADWs and national simulcasting--mid 80s i would say.

Q1: Don't know.
Q2: Don't know.

Pan An Sam was a nice horse, who unfortunately got to be well known because of that infamous race at Yonkers. The horse was for sale and was sold shortly after the race where seven drivers -- Jay Randall, Rene Poulin, Jim Marohn, Bill Bresnahan, Joe Marsh Jr., Mike Lachance, and of course, Henri Fillion -- were suspended. The triple came back very low and about 100 grand in tickets were cashed at various OTB's throughout NYC and LI.

thanks--did not know that

those days-they only had trifectas on a few races a card-unlike today of course

also the pools were much much bigger

Poulin, Filion, Lachance, Bresnahan were known race fixers even back then

Uhhh, Anthony Morgan, Herve all time of course.  Lachance would cash some nice tickets.  He got caught coming back into US from Canada with a briefcase with $95k in it...too funny.

I’m pretty sure it was going home to Canada not coming back to US. Would have had to explain where the cash came from. If they didn’t believe him he would have forfeited the cash and been refused entry. If they believed him he would have had to pay a fine for failing to declare over $10k.

No offense, respectively, and not sure if you know about this personally or simply heard ---- however the charges brought against Lachance were not for getting caught coming back into the US, and he did not have $95,000. I am instigating or being combative, however, perhaps you know about an incident that nobody else does, wasn't published, or something of the like.

Sorry, typo. Just to clarify. The incident, which is public information, had to do with him leaving the US, going to Canada, by plane/at the airport, where he was questioned about cash he had with him at the time, and he was apparently given the opportunity to not bring the cash, and upon his second attempt to board the plane, he was questioned about the cash, what he did with it, where it was, etc. It was confiscated by the authorities in a parked car he allegedly used to get to the airport. You can find all this using google.

Herve was gambling on dice big time at the Atlantic City Casino’s and on horses. Stephane Bouchard had absolutely no shame in ripping a horse. The Brennan, Morrill Jr, and Howard Parker show was absolutely brutal at freehold on Saturday afternoons in the late 80s early nineties. Jacky Mo was a degenerate back then. Donald Dancer who had one of the greatest last names in the history of harness racing was relegated to driving garbage claimers at the end of his cheating career. Rene Poulin would not  try on a horse for several months and then rob the entire tri and exacter pool at Yonkers. Peter Wrenn was asked to not come back to the meadowlands after he robbed the early double years ago with a Rodney Lorenzo trained horse from Pompano. I could type for hours about the race fixing at Yonkers back when I was a silent/part owner of horses back in the late 80s early 90s. I had a horse in at Yonkers when they used to have double headers. I think it was Monday or Tuesday back in the day when they raced at noontime and then again at like 6:30. My horse was in raging form and was going to be an easy winner. My trainer tells me. We can’t win today. Ray Schnittker paid my driver $1500 cash to sit second and don’t try to pass him to win. So I bet a exacter just one way. With my horse second. Herve shot for 3rd. $6.00 exacter and a $8.20 tri payoff. Those were the good ol days. Today’s modern era? I believe just about all drivers bet at Mohawk and Northfield.

Mrpick5 everything you said is true. Schnittker paid a lot of drivers to stay out of the way.

I forgot to also mention. LaChance was brutal at the Meadowlands in the cheap overnight races when his nephew Luc Toilet was in the race. So many times he drove to get his nephew home. But Ray paying off drivers in the Yonkers paddock was classic. George Anthony robbed a race one night at Yonkers. And left his bag of like $20,000 cash on top of a harness bag. He calls my trainer up and asks. Where’s my cut of the race we did business on? My trainer says. I left it on top of your harness bag in your barn next  to the feed buckets. Anthony says hold on. A minute later he says. Ok I found it. It was crazy back then. Even Yannick when he first came to Yonkers. Omg. The lineup numbers they would bet were nuts.

Yannick drove only at Yonkers when he first came to America over 20 years ago. You seriously didn’t know that?
