Nichols, NY — In light of the recent announcement that the New York regions containing both Tioga and Vernon Downs will be among the first to make a gradual return to business, Jeff Gural is working toward opening those tracks for live racing, hopefully by the end of May.

Negotiations with the horsemen’s organizations regarding details on just how to accomplish that in a fashion that would give racing the best chance to be conducted safely are underway.

“Although it’s not in my best business interests to open for racing before the casinos get back going as originally planned, being a horseman I sympathize with the guys that race with us and the situation they have found themselves in through no fault of their own,” said Jeff Gural, owner/operator of Tioga and Vernon Downs.

“Another key issue is the status of the NY Sires Stakes (NYSS) program. There are a lot of unknowns about the other tracks, when they will be able to open and what the landscape will look like when they do. I understand that Buffalo has chosen not to host NYSS races, so if we’re able to get open we’ll include that leg with those raced at Tioga and Vernon and get the program started.

“The picture should become much clearer over the next few days. We are busy working out the details of what will be expected of us to race and just how we’ll get that done. Horsemen will need to be involved and diligent in policing themselves because we can not afford a single mistake.”

Further details will be announced as they become known.

the soup is still bubbling too much.  Bernie and Ying-Yang forcing a primary in NY.  Hard to say, except if Bernie best Biden : whoo-boy, the race goes back on.  could happen, what w/ Joe B sequestered in his basement and the fall-out w/ the #metoo girls over Tara Reade.  Fact is, there's still  a long hot summer to get thru.

Keep your eyes on Hillary - and, then she drafts Mayor Pete @ VP.

EXCEPT BERNIE ALREADY BAILED?

May has 19 days left on to June . Any predictions for the second wave of the virus that Andrew Cuomo keeps bringing up ?

For all be careful what you wish for. China is now going back into lockdown as the second wave has hit them. You can think what you want racing is not on the top of the list to re open. Maybe it's time to suck it up and realize that racing might not be back until the new year. If you keep pressing to open up and that second wave hits racing will be done.

I say this with respect to everyone's opinion. You can say what if for the rest of your life?

I'm tired of all of the politicians & news media saying "were all in this together" Were Not. They are working/getting paid and are not going to lose their job, house or business!!!!!

What if I drive to grandma's and a semi blows a tire, runs me off the road and kills me and my family?

What if new monkey virus Covid-20 comes to the world in the fall?

What if a metor hits the earth?

Gov Cuomo likes to say every life is precious, and he is correct. But if that's the way we really lived our lives/country would be stagnant.
Using Cuomo's and others statement about life..... We don't lower the nationwide vehicle speed to 20mph to save 40,000 lives per year, because if we did we could save those lives, but we don't because its not feasible & people wouldn't stand for it!!!!

Life is a series of calculated risks... nothing more. Everything that you decide to do has a margin of risk. No outcome is ever 100 percent certain and, any attempt at anything has a chance of complete failure. Life is all about risks... you take some and you avoid others. Taking a risk to achieve a goal requires courage to face the fear of uncertainty. No matter the outcome, either way, we grow through the process and become more resilient.

its a case of politicians and health officials "not knowing what they don't know"
they have no idea how the rate of spread will or wont be
lockdowns were the appropriate action at the time
just as slowly and safely opening back up economies in regions that are deemed safe are appropriate now
yes maybe ny/nj should be on the back burner, but should Indiana, Illinois, Ohio etc be held back
if it looks like the virus is rising up again than measures will need to be taken but at this time that is a WHAT IF not a fact
the virus is not disappearing in the next few weeks or months so the options are stay shuttered down and destroy the economy FOR ALL  or try to ease our way back to life
some folks make it sound like horse racing is A. going to cause  the virus to accelerate( no proof of that yet) or B. we want horse racing opened up at the expense of other businesses or at the cost of people's lives( not true, not connected scenarios)
if you own a shop that can be opened then go for it, if you have a dog grooming business that can be opened , do it etc
horse racing just happens to be a business that likely can be operated safely unlike cruise ships , sporting events, concerts, restaurants etc
any business that can safely be opend and help stimulate the economy is desperatly needed

Being able to admit you don't know is genius as well.

Plenty of tracks opening this week:

Charles Town
Churchill
Golden Gate
Santa Anita

Not a lot of people are worried about welfare harness tracks.

Please stop sobbing.

Maybe learn a new skill?  Try SQL?

Or transfer your skills to a new industry?

But please, stop sobbing.

Please.
