The O'Brien Awards are a joke.  It's a popularity contest and has no merit.  The rightful winners are usually not even nominated, and they put in stupid rules to protect certain people.  They have no credibility.

HH     "The rightful winners are usually not even nominated".

Who would you have nominated that isn't, in any of the categories ??

There is a whole list of horses that didn't get nominated.  Shartin starts the list.  Papi Rob Hanover?  The best horses, trainers and breeders in our sport didn't get nominated.  They have obscure rules where they try to make it Canadian but then allow everything that isn't Canadian.  It's ridiculous.  Take the Breeder of the year for instance, The #1 breeder in Canada (Winbak Farm) breeds more Ontariobred horses than any other farm in Canada but aren't eligible. They have been Canada's #1 breeder for 9 of last 12 years but aren't eligible for Armstrong breeder of the year because the owner isn't Canadian.  They are standing 11 stallions this year coming in Ontario ironically at the Armbro Farm in Caledon but they aren't eligible.  But the top horses that Libfeld/Katz and Rob MacIntosh are being honored for breeding are Americanbreds. If you want to have awards to honor the best, then make it the best in our sport without boundaries.  If you want to make it the best in Canada then make it 100% Canadian and let the chips fall where they may.  This obscure formula that is in place now doesn't work.  IMO

The only reason gamblers don't care is because they know it's not about the horse.
