Title: NORTHFIELD RESURFACE PROJECT
Post by: Mailbox Money on August 16, 2023, 10:00:34 PM
Alright let's hear what you have been hearing! I have gotten 2 reports in the past few hours that the track was found to be short by 40 feet or more! When projects start there is always chatter about what was discovered. Having toured the surface myself over the years, I had doubts about the length. It will be interesting see if anyone has solid facts about this!

I know of 2 east coast trainers myself who ventured there for stakes events, warmed up with a GPS watch, and said it was 10s of feet short

If this is fact, it will be interesting to see how they handle the track records in various class that have been set in the past few years! The problem was generated by MOVING THE PYLONS IN when feature events are scheduled! This has been done so many times, they forgot where they were in the first place! ngc3
However if history holds true, they will DENY,DENY,DENY!

Not surprised   Worst kept secret in harness racing back in the day was that the second quarter at the old Big M was a round 100 feet short going down the backstretch  Every driver and trainer there said it "came up too quick"  In 1985 when it was unheard of Nihilator brushed a second quarter in 25.2!!   I guess it tarnishes that a little bit   But not too much  Nihilator was a flat out MONSTER

For crying out loud.  It's well known that we all get shorter as we age.  Certainly shouldn't surprise anyone that the track has shrunk over time.

Last night races

9 races went in 1:59.1 or slower --- lot's of 2:00 + races.

The old times of Northfield are about as true as Pro Wrastlin

3-4 seconds difference between now and before.

I believe the official difference is 68 feet, from what I’ve been hearing, which equates to about 1 1/2 to 2 seconds slower.
All those horses selling on ongait have tainted marks if they occurred more than a few weeks ago.

I hope they soften the surface a little also.  My horses always had sore feet from racing there.
