2 million in ADW wagers net the horsemen purse account about $36,000-$38,000.  Ten races with purses from $3,600-$4,000 is about all you could do if the purse account doesn’t have any reserves.

If they are getting less than 2% from wagers, then they need to restructure the deal with the tracks, ADWs, or both.
ADWs are making the most with minimal exposure.

This should apply to future contracts from all tracks and all ADWs.

so i brought this up a month ago not just for pompano but other tracks
but many commented the idea of racing was idiotic while people are dying
no detail as to who are dying and where and why just a general comment with little facts
it continues to be proven racing can go on in a safe manner  and if an issue arises than steps need to be taken
doesn't matter what any of us think , bottom line  is gulfstream and a few others have successfully raced , handled huge purses and importantly kept cash flowing to owners on down
just the facts

Exactly, this same question was brought up in the Cal Expo thread as to why they had to shut down while other California tracks were still racing?

Remember the reason supposedly that Cal got to stay open was they had an open facility where there was air flow through the paddock area that minimized the exposure through body fluid droplets being aerated vs an indoor facility that would have more stagnate air flow. Plus social distancing for them was easier to accomplish.

Then all of a sudden the Health Department reversed their decision for Cal Expo yet horse racing was still allowed at other California tracks.

I agree with other comments about potential handle at Pompano or even Cal Expo if they were still racing.

Harness racing gamblers are a addictive bunch (including me) who will bet harness racing no matter which track is racing. Handle can't be the limitation when their normal daily handle is less than what they could handle now.

i do agree that pomp closed because the casino dont want them period. i also think all our tracks get the shaft from the adw's and otb's. the aprox 3 percent model tracks get from their signal is stuck in the 80's. when tracks raced 10 races live. sending the signal to only other tracks and a few otb's. it was then found money. except this is 40 years later and 90 percent of handle comes from off track. adw's and tote companies are whats making money off the handle. it seems crazy to see 10-15 million bet at oaklawn but they cant extend their meet because they cant keep purses going without their casino. business needs to change.

Time for the industry to negotiate new deals based on most bets are now not made at the track (excluding current pandemic era).

So you say the industry is dead, but you laugh at 1 way to revive it based on current betting behaviors?
The model is broken, and this might be 1 way to fix it.

Absolutely true, even the high and mighty had to support his tracks purses with his own money and without the Sports Book and new Jersey money who knows how long that would have lasted.

I applaud you for trying ... but .. Ya wanna fix it.  Then lets take a trip on Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine.  We'll start with changing Peter Haughton's mind about having a car race with Lew Williams in 1980, maybe his father would have stopped driving and not gone down for the count at Yonkers in 86. Then we'll erase the Fitzgerald, Case Jr. and Filion's race fixing scandals which reinforced the public view of harness being fixed. Next up ..  Bulletproof with it's heroes the Brooks Brothers, Josh Marks and Tracy. We didn't need them, lets get rid of them. Finally we have the current bru ha ha although if that was gone we'd have nothing to talk about. Obviously all of this is bullshit but my point is that we are never going to fix the handle problem in harness and I for one am saddened by that.
