At Monticello yesterday "Ideal candidate"up in class to 5k was claimed by Hunter Oakes?.......with maybe 9 more starts and horse facing retirment makes no sense........sad game
-
His father the indicted one gave him some cash said go have fun.
-
If my dad gave me $5000 and said go have some fun, purchasing a 14 year old horse wouldn't have even been on my top 10 million list.
-
Not a good move IMO but as good as the slot money is right know he can get his money back in a few starts.

Lol, I agree...
Just curious does anyone know if Chris Oakes and Hunter are offspring of George Porky Oakes who was a good horseman , real nice guy Monticello regular back in the day ?

Well, at least he'll go out on a "high" note - pun intended...
-
I say he makes money on the investment. We will see ?
-
The horse raced back in the same class. $5000 claimer. NO CHECK!!!!!

even working the best strategies for selection to try to get a possibility of success ... WHY? why, the man asks, would anyone reduce their prospects for coming out on the profit side by adding the sands of time to the equation?
There are a couple reliable old-timers on the Ohio circuit - BUt, same thing, they are down to 2 mos. of racing - just too much of a gamble.
-
No relation to Porky
-
13 and 14-Year-olds are claimed in Ohio all the time. Most then go to win 5 or 6 in a row for new connections ngc3

He won today (Wed. 10/28/20) at Monti. I am still sticking to my earlier post that it was a good claim by Oakes and he will at least get his money back by the end of the year.
-
Sad for the horses though, after racing their whole life they get blasted for a few more starts and then shipped to the killers for the last dollar. I hope there is a hell.
-
Michael forte still racing anymore
-
I'm sure it was a straw purchase and the original breeder/owner wanted him back for retirement.

sad game .....original owner gave horse to Mcguire sowers because Maine trainer Candace Brandstetter advised him that horse was lame and had tendon issues and could not handle turns at Bangor.......so with a promise of a good home Sowers took horse with no $$$$ transacted to Ken Spinney.....with bills mounting and horse not getting in Spinney sold horse as a tax write off.....it happens and obviously Ken is upset as this is racing

So, to ease him into a blissful retirement, he decided to hook the horse up with somebody that will blow his 14 year old head off a few more times, for old times sake. How lovely...

You don't think he's had a few hot suppers in the past?
-
Who did Oakes claim the horse off of, Sowers or Spinney ? I'm confused who owned him before Oakes.

Sowers was the listed owner of the horse.
-
Thanks. I do not know Spinney personally but I believe he is a pretty good guy. He has been a teacher and principal in high schools for almost 30 years. Parents, teachers, and students seem to like him.
-
He won an Amatuer Driver race (Catskill) today. It was a $5,000 claimer race and he went wire to wire. Christopher Petrelli in the bike. $2,100 down $2,900 to get his $5,000 back.
-
tmbz1 Good for him, this is a free country. Can do whatever the fuck they want. Dumb asses on this site act like their opinion matters....... fuck off
-
Oakes claimed the horse off sowers.......and now he has him too retirment......I believe his father had some issues

Someone asked earlier about Mike Forte. Yes, he still drives and trains a little. Most recently at Yonkers and Monti.
-
Not too long ago someone on here asked if Mike was still around. Today up at Monti he showed up for only the 1st Race , took a 12 to 1 shot wire to wire while being chased by the favorite the entire race, and won by seven (7) lengths. He then left before the 2nd Race even started and went home. Yes, he is still around. Great job ! I have to go and cash my tickets.

Forte didn't drive in the opener. Kyle DiBenedetto picked up the winning drive.

Titans1137,
You are correct. The USTA early reporting results listed Forte as the winning driver and now as you have stated , it shows Kyle. Maybe early results should be looked at in the election and a recount done. I wonder why they listed Forte as the driver when it was first posted? Good reporting.
