$125,000 on the line. #1 wins the race but gets placed last for "STARTING IN FRONT OF THE STARTING GATE".
Anyone ever here of that before?
Driver fault? Track at fault for piss poor gate?

that’s nuts
valid DQ
one time at Woodbine George Brennan had Life Source from the 12 hole
the 2 broke behind the gate.. George took his spot left from the two hole
finished 2nd in big stakes... Dqd for unfair start
-
And they’d say take your and go the fuck home

And they’d say take your and go the fuck home...
... and don't come back.

100% correct

replay and photo is on StandarbredCanada . How does the starter not have the gate close enough to the rail that it couldnt happen?
There is enough room you could have had 2 or 3 inside the gate ?? This should be on the starter
-
The filly went wire to wire and won easily, in what would have been a track record. I can not understand why a recall would not be called in that situation. Not as bad at the Baffert cover up, but still.
Sincerely, Silent One

here comes the lawsuit and i dont blame the owners

starter has no control of the positioning of the starting gate
that falls on the gate driver
and anyone with half a brain knows they cannot leave in front of the gate

While she was in front of the gate before the start, it appears she was behind just as they passed the starting pole. Agree?
-
Agreed. If you stop the video right before the start the #1's nose is slightly behind the gate.
Crap call for two reasons. 1) the driver should not be responsible for the incompetence of track staff and 2) there was no violation.
Parallel - if this kind of bullring has a couple of missing pileons marking the invisible line of the hubrail and a driver follows the line on the turn and effectively creates a shortcut, should they be DQ'ed? Maybe the time should be not allowed, but the driver was following track conditions.
BS call. I would be protesting this one.

Worst case, place the winner 2nd. The top 2 were way ahead of the balance of the field.
-
Stable mate came 2nd and placed 1st so trainer still basically got paid (although 1-2 obviously better)

The trainer owned part of the horse that finished second and got placed first.
So he actually made more money after the DQ.

The racetrack is called Century Mile btw. It is in Edmonton...Centur y Downs is the Calgary track.

starter could have sounded recall if the wings truly had not been released. Agree gate driver should be unemployed. If you are referring to the driver with half a brain knowing - the driver in this case actually does have a clue and is probably one of the best all around horsemen in Canada (pull his UDRS and UTRS).
This one isnt on the driver and he was behind the gate at the starting pole -
-
That was the worst start of a race period. The starter should have had the inquiry.
-
Thats crazy, she did not even get a head start, she was under the gate, not in front of it,
she was even with the 6, at the start,
Bad call judges...
-
this horse should have been declared a non starter instead of a DQ
would have been more fair to the bettors
then again , handle means nothing as we all know
-
non starter!?!?! NO WAY then the owner still gets screwed
it should have been a recall or left to stand...but as usual harness racing fucked up again
yes recall would be best
