Not with Monopoly money.

I bet him his 1st two starts at Pompano, and was really not that impressed with him against MUCH MUCH less.  He may be 14th to 20th best in that series.

Am not saying I would bet him, but would be very surprised if doesn't race much better this week.  Something had to be wrong for him to race so bad.

His last start before the Levy was at Pompano almost a month prior. He probably shipped north and got sick.

How is this horse allowed to race again without qualifying?!!!! If he wires the field in 1:53:0 what will that say?

Takes 4-6 wks to acclimate from the climate change and the ship itself. Done it and seen both many times. I don't know when he got up north,so I'm not sure when the clock started! IMO

he shipped 2 weeks ago

You know absolutely nothing. This horse is now rated a mule, and the owners have a $20,000 claimer on their hands.  Christen Me N is done too.  These are NOT FFA caliber horses and the older pacing rank is very limited in talent at this level.

Better? Really? Instead of last by 13 lengths he was last by 6 lengths, both times going nowhere.  I shipped over 6 NZ horses and for the most part, you know early on what you have.  That 1:50:2 mile RUINED him at Pompano! Fork time, unfortunately.

Did you ever own a NZ import? Rest won't solve his problem.  He went tooooooooooo fast tooooooooo soon, and many NZ imports cannot handle it. I doubt he will ever be the same. They did not spend $18,000 USD to ship him here to acclimate and get accustomed to his new surroundings.  These NZ horses, for the most part, are a quick hit or miss, and they find their USA levels here very quickly.

https://harness.hrnz.co.nz/gws/ws/r/infohorsews/wsd06x?Arg=hrnzg-Ptype&Arg=RaceVideo&Arg=hrnzg-RacehdrID&Arg=244125  His last start in NZ. He was exported here 11 days later.  The NZ trainers knew what they were doing in NZ after he had lost 14 straight races. I guarantee they used the same constant reasoning that he ran out of classes to race in, so sell him to the USA.

inside post will not help enough as he has limited gate speed. Owners are drinking too much Croghan cool aide. Will be in for $20,000  clm.by mid May or declared with incurable problem and retired. Either way, owners take it on the chin.

He will end up racin at hoosier for Peter W

Based on what? Out of the money again this week. The only question is how far back will he finish? They won't put him in claimers either.  That would be too embarrassing for Croghan.  The horse has not even covered the flight cost up here yet, let alone the training and staking and shipping fees.

If he is NOT watching, the owners should dump him, or ANY trainer, that recommends a huge purchase and brushes it off as no big deal when they flop so badly.

Another few poor outings and this horse will be entered for : NW of a hot dog last 5 starts !!

In a few weeks it'll be: $15,000 claiming price (AE: Levy Series starters with no points (min 3 starts))

I think he might struggle as a $15,000 claimer now! There is nothing there to believe in now. Zeron looked clueless in the bike as if he knew this horse is done in New York.  If Croghan enters him for leg 4, he should have his head examined.  They should qualify him at the Meadowlands and see if he has anything left to compete with.  If not, get his passport ready.

Christen Me N is another one that belongs out of the Levy and should be racing in the $20,000 Meadowlands Open already.

In 2011:Murray Brown, the vice president and general manager of the Standardbred Horse Sale, as well as the public relations director for Hanover Shoe Farms, which bred Detour Hanover, said the trotting colt has the makeup to be a champion. “I’ve been at Hanover for 44 years and we’ve sold a lot of trotters in that time and he was without a doubt the finest physical specimen of a trotter that I’ve ever seen,” Brown said. “My all-time most beautiful yearling was The Panderosa. He was called Dead-Eye Hanover when he was a yearling. He was about as close to perfection that I’ve ever seen. (Detour Hanover) is his equivalent on the trot." ----“It will either be the greatest thing that ever happened or the biggest calamity,” a laughing Cancelliere said after spending $825,000 for the trotting colt Detour Hanover, a full brother to 2007 Horse of the Year Donato Hanover. “They could be laughing at me for the next 20 years.”-------case closed on hype and opinions from those who think they know more than the rest of us!

Brett Sturman:'On that opposite end of the spectrum, what happened to the supposed strong crop of a record 12 horses from New Zealand and Australia? In fact, of the 12 Down Under horses, the only one to be well positioned to even race in the finals is the former defending champion, Bit Of A Legend N. There's no way around it that the most disappointing of the imports has been Waikiki Beach A. He tied up in his first Levy start, but even discounting that, he was always outpaced in his next two races. With that foreign record early in his career and then the 1:50 mile in his second start at Pompano it looked like he'd be a threat in the series. Hopefully the connections can figure him out and we'll get a chance to see his best at some point in the future.'------no chance of that happening Brett, unfortunately, after what we all saw.

He would struggle at Rosecroft now Luc. Fork time for him, unfortunately.  A write-off for the Croghan owners for sure. They know it.  Croghan has no more excuses. It's time to realize it's over with him and not throw good monthly training dollars after bad going forward.  He is racing now like a mule.

They know it.  It's unfortunate.  I brought one over here from NZ to $55,000USD landed 6 years ago and it NEVER raced, adding on $30,000 in training bills for my group.

the other ones the shipped over have done pretty well

The horse was overhyped as a Levy major player and look where he is now.  It points out how risky and foolish these high purchase priced NZ horses are to buy.  I doubt he does any better in this class.  We will see. It proves his worth was nowhere near what was probably paid for him.  Keep the NZ purchases at the current exchange rates to UNDER $50,000 USD landed. If not, it's like the gold making machine from Superman that Professor Pepperwinkle invented in the tv series.  The problem was it took $10,000 of platinum to make only $5000 of gold. It's the same with NZ horses.  Why spend over $100,000? After packing on training bills, the break even point is $150,000 in earnings the first year, which is the exception, NOT the rule, with ANY NZ horses brought here.

http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fields/race-fields/?mc=MX030218#MXM03021801  Heaven Rocks looks like a nice NZ horse.  He was 3rd in February to Lazarus in a $500,000 race.  His 1:51:4 at Ashburton last year for a straight 2 turn mile was nice. Again, I hope the price was not over $100,000 USD landed because it will take a lot to get that all back with the training fees on top of it.  Click PLAY to watch the race from February.  He moves his head around a lot.

NZ HARNESS NEWS

Outstanding but erratic pacer Heaven Rocks is under offer to American interests and could be stateside by the end of the month.

Co-owner Phil Kennard confirmed to NZ Harness News this morning that the owners of the big gelding had accepted an offer and now it was a case of waiting for the buyers to complete their due diligence before he departed Australasian shores.

The decision came with mixed emotions for the group according to Kennard who said although he’s tested their patience on numerous occasions during his career, he’s also given them some incredible thrills.

“It’s been an interesting ride, that’s for sure,” Kennard said.

“He’s given us all some wonderful thrills, but going to watch him is a bit like going to a rodeo, you just don’t quite know what’s going to happen.”

Kennard said the horse was still in good health and capable of racing competitively in the high grades, but his manners have unfortunately meant he has always been chasing the good ones.

“If you go back through most of his runs, he’s had to chase because he’s come off the unruly or been slow away or done things wrong.

“He’s put up some phenomenal performances at times, to run a length and a half behind Vincent, who Mark thinks is the next big thing, in the Auckland Cup was huge.

“But eventually, that could break his heart and none of us want that to happen.”

Heaven Rocks is a multiple Group One winner, including last season’s Easter Cup and 4YO Emerald at the Harness Jewels.

He raced for Kennard, his wife Glenys, Phil and Margaret Creighton, Gavin Douglas and Kevin Riseley on 27 occasions, winning 12 and placings a further six times for close to $500,000 in earnings.

It’s never nice selling a horse who has given you such a great ride Kennard said, but at the end of the day the owners had made the decision based on what was best for the horse, Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen and for them in the long run.

“It would have been hard for him next season, off the unruly and chasing not only Lazarus, but probably Vincent too.

“The treatments he can get over in America will help him greatly and it will free up a lot of time around the stable because he requires attention above and beyond most other horses.”

It is likely, unfortunately, that Heaven Rocks’ last run as a Kiwi will go down as one of his worst, with his effort to finish last in the Allied Express Sprint on Saturday night at Menangle.

“With the virus that had been going through the barn we weren’t that confident, he hadn’t really handled the retention barn too well, either.

“But he was pretty ordinary by his standards.”

With just the minor details to be worked out by the interested party, Kennard expected that Heaven Rocks could be on his way to America within a fortnight........ .......so there you go. A head case that Croghan thinks he can solve here.  At what price to the owners? It's a HUGE gamble!

At some point, deep pockets can get holes in them and lose money.  It's a risky gamble on a probably big cost to get a horse like that over here.  Good luck.  We shall see the return.  I find these NZ agents and trainers way overhype what they are selling, and many are unloading high priced horses with straight faces.  Some NZ horses do well here, but more don't, in terms of even breaking even.

You embarrass yourself constantly.  This horse is racing in lower conditioned classes, which are NOT what his most likely HUGE cost was intended for, in bringing him here!  You could get the same results with a $30,000 claimer instead.  If this horse cost over $100,000 USD to get here, they are taking a BATH on him.  He is NOT worth the cost, and you know it.

Look, I'm just trying to help.  I owned lots of old claimers.  So, if you had to make a Binary Decision on who to listen to; UNCLE CALHOUN or ROCCO FAKE CREDIT REPORT RUFFOLLO, you may want to revisit your heretofore decision making.

When you run DFL week-after-week, two things happen:

1.  You panic.  You look to sell low.  In other words, you become Ruffolo.  You make a shitty decision.  All you have to look forward to is watching the horse win for new owners.

2. You refuse to acknowledge reality.  You make  up excuses for bad runs that noone ever made or heard of before.  This is another Ruffoolo mental defect.

So you say to yourself, "What should I do?  What would Calhoun do?"

Well, here's the deal... 1.  The horse is too old to improve significantly...  2. He needs change.... driver, track, trainer if you're that strong.

So, ipso fatso, put the horse on a half and put him in the 30's at Yonkers.

Anyhow, good luck.
