OFF A TIP FROM GARY MCNICHOLS I WHEELED A DOUBLE WITH HIS HORSE...DD CAME BACK OVER $350, ONLY HAD 2 DOLLAR WHEEL, BUT THAT WAS A GREAT WIN.

1991 Big M Pace
played a $500 exacta one way
Precious Bunny over Artsplace
did not reverse it for any money
Moiseyev and Bunny dominated at 3-1.. Artsplace was 2/5 and was life and death to win a 5 minute photo over 70-1 Stormin Jesse driven Manzi who was parked the mile and raced an unreal race himself
the exacta paid $18.20 for $2
big score for me at age 26

best ROI on a bet a few years back. Took down cal expo pick 6 pool for $4400 on a $6 ticket.

my 2nd biggest score around 2003 at Harrington
played a $5 exacta box 4/7 and $1 tri 47 w all w 47
i was coming in 1st/3rd on my exactas a lot there so i started hitting all in the middle .... every race was that same $22 investment for an 8 horse field
this was before 50 cent trifecta
both the 4 and 7 were co favored at 5/2
always playing gate leavers the 4 and 7 blasted the gate and lined up
a mid pack breaker scattered the field
Valerie Warnick finished 2nd for me at 80/1 from the ones g 4-1-7
took the tri pool down for that $1... paid about $3700 as there was only $5000 or so in the pool
i never play dreamer trifectas, supers or pentas and don’t like horizontals
so these small hits are the best i have

Brandywine Raceway late 70's. Bet a $25.00 Exacta Mr. Hotshot with Kennedy Princess and then reversed it. Mr. Hot Shot finished second, Kennedy Princess 1st. I got back $2500.00 for the exacta.
The best part is is that i had to eat those tickets if they didn't finish that way because I was betting for someone else a $50 exacta and bought the wrong tickets so I kept the mistake tickets and won. Dumb luck.
-
Rosecroft raceway in the late 80s hit a trifecta with a horse name Oxford Kyle on top at 99 to 1. Had all ticket on top in a wide open race. Horse paid over 400 to win. Took down whole pool 18k for trifecta.

At a 1/2 mile bullring in Canada in the late 80's. Maiden Trotters, two favorites under 1-1, one 5 and the other 9 hole.
2 horse box, $4 - took down the entire pool with a 90-1 over a 40-1. Took at least 15 minutes to sort out the official result with a 3 horse photo for place and literally everyone except the winner went offstride at some point.
$2400 seemed like $1M to be back then.

Hit a pic 3 and 4 at the Big M for just under 5000 a few years ago... tmbz1

One time I was at Sportsman Park in Chicago and a old acquaintance I knew from the Balmoral of mine knew Alan Henager Sr and told me they had a big shot with Whap he's parked out 1st over and peters out, the following wk he wins and pays $100.80 needless to say we left out of there with a ton of Money only to come out to a flat tire!
The following week I see my old acquaintance at the track and asked him if he had Whap his responce was hell no he had to work and missed the race, that's the kind of shit that will eat you alive.
As Dave Feldman use to say the would of could of Horse racing!
Another time, I use to bet Eagle Event every single week, one week my Brothers in a tuff man tournament again in the 90's and I went to hawthorne back in the good old Days on double header cards and my Girlfriends sez why do u keep betting this Horse because I said hes gonna win one of these days needless to say I was in Louisville Ky and went to the betting parlor to look and see if they were showing Hawthorne and nobody was needless to say he paid $82.00 to win talking about being a sick Puppy 4 awhile!

Had a few pick 5 pays in the neighborhood of 5 k.
More memorable scores were at the big m. One was on a Chris Siccuna horse that paid $212 to win. Had in exacta p4 and late double. Prices were sweet as a decent Longshot I used ran second. Was a field devoid of talent, and cs's horse had competive form. Odd play, right?
Of course another decent score (wp) was on my namesake Hornby Duke who was a classy trotting gelding that I recollect won a few sire stakes north of the border and then ran in the Preferred level trots in the states. A huge trotter that had tons of heart and class about him and a great late kick. One of his owners for awhile is on plop and I'm sure could tell more interesting stories regarding hornby - but I enjoyed just watching him.

True story.... walked into the sports/race book at the old Wyndham Hotel on Cable Beach in Nassau Bahamas.... just got off the plane... first bet of the vacation looked up at the board .... with 1 minute to post at Hoosier bet the outside (3) horses in a 3 horse tri box... trot... chalk jumped at the gait... took 4 horses out of the race with him... left 5 to go... 2 of the others jumped around the half... left just my (3).... 8-9-7... 1/2 of $6,300 on a $6 bet !! Pretty much had a great vacation after that !!!

Clinton Raceway, early 90's, Wheeled Colonel Schneider Jr on top of the Tri. He disappoints and finishes 3rd behind a 18-1 winner and a 99-1 runner-up.
The announcer says "Please hold all tickets as there is no winning ticket sold". At that time in Ontario if there was no winning ticket - they paid out on any combo of the top 3 finishers. So I get the whole pool on 2 winning tickets -$3300.
Claimed a horse the next week with the winnings. She wins 4 of her next five including a minor stake race for total purse winnings of about $9000.
................. ....those were the days!

Balmoral in the late 90s. Crazy Henry screaming he had it figured all out. Gave me 3 horses to box, said don’t look at the board. Boxed the three in a $2 tri. 3 longest shots on the board. Just about threw away the ticket, they end up finishing 1-2-3. Paid $8800 for my $6 bet. Light Switch N was one of the horses, don’t remember the other two. Paid Henry $50 to sign the ticket

Any first time Robinson was never better then 3-1. I think I even ran to my car to find loose change. Horse just crushed. Almost 6k said and done. Had a fun night.

Pompano Park, Spring of 1971, Maiden trot.
Three year old green trotter stable nickname "Horace Dupose Johns" wins and pays $83.60 with a young second trainer driving(me).
The colt had jumped it off the week before with the hall of fame trainer driving.
No one in their right mind would now bet with the second trainer driving. Our whole stable knew that Horace could trot enough if he behaved himself. I knew I just needed to keep him flat and out of trouble. We all bet our money and soon we did some real celebrating.
Those days only grooms for Stanley Dancer made as much as $83.60 a week. A two dollar bet got the grooms back more then a weeks wages.
In maiden races in the spring at Pompano you might find Haughton, Dancer, Miller, Sholty, etc so why bet a young second trainer.
Inside information when it is good it is real good!
