YR Race 9
« on: October 18, 2023, 11:57:06 PM »
ok  so the 6 horse pops and blows a bad favorite away  the horse is 2-1 ML, but pays $21 to win
Not a first in the annals of racing, but with the 2-5 shot off the board, can somebody, anybody explain the exotic prices?

It’s always tough to know when a 2-1 morning line goes off long and an odds on horse finishes out of the money. Plus Bartlett finished 2nd. I don’t see anything totally outrageous here. What is outrageous is 7 of 9 favorites, some very short odds, went down in flames.

Looking at the go off odds and the w p s prices.  With a 2-5 off the board, don't you think the exacta and triple are very short ?

I know what you mean. A 2-1 shot ML who drifts to 9-1 and wins may still be used like a 2 or 3 to 1 shot in the gimmicks.

just seems like exacta and triple should be 50 or 60% more when you look at the across the board prices

Unless an odds on horse is in the money, I find if you multiply the win price by the place price then multiply that result by 4 you pretty much know how much a trifecta should pay. But when an odds on horse is ITM the trifecta may not pay what it normally would. Maybe a multiplier of 2 or 3 vs 4. What will always screw things up is a short field and small pools.
