He announced baseball, going to also work in race office. Must be a cheap hire.

The fact that they didn't "reach out"...is a point in Tiogas favor

Lets give Shades a chance to get familiar with a tough task...learning to call races

It looks like he brings some enthusiasm to the job, and a willingness to learn about the business.

His new position might prompt media in Binghampton , who knew him from baseball, to  follow him and do a story or two on him and Tioga.
His background and contacts might bring a few new customers to Tioga.

Those who are quick to criticize ….should ask Tioga management if they can come to Tioga some day and call a few qualifiers.  Their attitude will change in a hurry.

Lets support Shades ( who I have never met) with constructive ideas , and patience !

Good Luck Shades

Good luck to new guy..

BUT

If you'd like a longtime fan of harness game who used to work in radio...I could easily call the races off a laptop sitting in my place.  Mr Gural could get me cheap..little overhead
(calling the action in my underwear from Toronto, chomping on treats and pop, and gambling on the races) you could tell by voice inflection who I have.

Howard Oil fills in and he's more obnoxious than The Voice.

I agree. A pretty nice first effort. The races I watched, he got the horses names right, and later on the card "picked up" horses making a move from the back of the pack...and then he went quickly back to the contending horses entering the stretch. His voice tone was consistent...not yelling to make a point
He was good at watching the teletimer and giving us the times at 1/4  1/2  and 3/4...…..which helped because the timer colors on my screen were tough to read.

Good first try Shades.....your style will develop over time....don't rush it....just call the races like you did Sunday

Give SHADES a chance. We FLATS know him as analylist. Young kid. And he known as you all say by SHADES also. He tries and he first time doin. It a small track and one needs to start somewhere. Surprized it not at FLATS track but that GIG is tough to get.
I knows BILLY DOWN"S JR. He a good friend and caller at INDIANA GRAND. Known him since he in college at MARQUETTE. Obviously knew him thru his dad,who was my great friend at track for 25 years. BILL started small. ARAPAHO,then BEULAH,ELLIS,with a few stand ins at CHURCHILL. Then he got gig at INDIANA. Not bad since it a 8 month meet. Great handicapper too I might add. He been to NTRA finals at least 8 times.
ME point is: SHADES just startin. Give the kid a chance. YA gotta start somewhere. He got ENTHUSIAZM. BILLY JR. had the BEAULAH TWINS at one point. That could definatly be a distraction. He concentrated on callin.
HOPES you do well SHADES. GOOD LUCK. YOU CAN DO IT!.
