almost done with racing. Watching drivers back down second quarters, esp at Yonkers racing is nauseating.
So----I know that there are a lotta reasons why this wouldn't work, but how about a rule that the second quarter can be no more than one second slower than the first?
I the best interest of mainting the pace of the race?
Thoughts?

not the driver on the leads fault,it's all the other drivers letting him back it down

sounds like you are frustrated because your closers are having difficulties gaining ground in the lane
staring at fractions won’t help

IN THOSE SHITTY 8 HORSE OR LESS FIELDS THEY SHOULD MAKE IT A RULE THEY MUST BE 4IN, 4 OUT BY THE TIME THEY CROSS THE WIRE AT THE 1/2. NO ONE PULLS THERE UNTIL WAY TOO LATE AND THE 6TH, 7TH, 8TH HORSES HAVE NO SHOT.
YONKERS ALWAYS WAS A DUMP AND STILL IS IMO.
-
So how do we fix this? Or do you think that it doesnt need fixing?
-
Have more aggressive drivers. If the pace is slow pull the horse and go around. It's that simple. I know a lot people bash Merriman and Wrenn at Northfield (I realize they usually get first choice on the best horses) but they are either on the lead or they pull and maybe get parked for a half mile or more but they give their horses a chance to win. If the horse has enough it wins if not it wasn't going to win anyway.

Agreed, more than 2 seconds slower than the first qtr should be a fine.

Change drivers percentages to 2% at high purse tracks They won’t just wait for right spot then! Drivers these days have no competitive spirit they just count there
Money
-
get rid of 1/2 mile tracks
-
They should strap thoroughbreds to the sulky, would be much more exciting.

my 5% from Yonkers ends up being much more than the 2-3 other tracks we race at, every month...
if you got no skin in the game, grab yer shovel

I realize they are trying to win-but since this is a GAMBLING form of entertainment-the Gamblers need to be looked after .
When a horse is not on the front end at Yonkers and the driver of the leader slows down the second 1/4 to two seconds or more from the first quarter-the horses behind chances of winning are greatly reduced-gamblers get frustrated seeing this time and again=handle going down-loss of fan base.
I suggest that drivers who drop 2 seconds or more in the second 1/4 from the first-get 0% drivers fee and his 5% gets paid to the horses that didnt get a check.
This will add incentive for drivers to go just a little faster that second 1/4-make other drivers happy-and the gamblers also as its now a race where 7 horses chances of winning are improved. If the winner is good enough-it can still win-everyone happy.
No driver should be rewarded for turning a race into a pet walking affair.
Lets have some real racing.!!!!

That's my money you are talking about, BOZO. My job is to finish where I intend to. Notice I didn't say, WIN the race, I drive race horses for my benefit, not you degenerate gamblers. I put my life on the line so I can make a few bucks and transfer what was in your pocket into mine. Beautiful life isn't it.
-
or you could just bet the horses that are going to the front
called handicapping
you cannot beat them so either stop or get on board
-
to me its not about cashing tickets.
its about having a product out there that generates enough excitement to create , i don't know, maybe one new fan?
-
This issue isn't only at Yonkers, it's at every track except Northfield. Big tracks like Meadowlands and Mohawk aren't any different. Guys don't pull until the 5/8th's or if they pull earlier they don't advance while waiting for cover and that guy does the same while also waiting. It's a boring sport and as we die off so goes the fan base. It's only here because the law says it has to be for the slot licence. Once that changes then you can turn off the lights.

there’s where you don’t get it
the fans mean nothing
handle is meaningless purses funded by gaming
fans get shit on with past posting on the bets and super drug trainers with multiple beards
why would you ever think fans matter?
times have changed ... what’s good for the public doesn’t happen
-
Papillon .... "why would you ever think fans matter?"
I'm a small owner and don't feel like I matter.
Race clean and get beat by a lesser horse.
So if the fan doesn't matter and the gambler doesn't matter and the small owner doesn't matter, who matters in this game ???

the fraction of gaming revenue that is legislatively obligated to fund purses
is about the only thing that matters
integrity, level playing field and justice all left decades ago

Where the fuck you think Casinos get money from? their mommys like you?? ngc3 ngc3 ngc3
not from horse racing handle you fucking dope
as been said here a million times... this nice decoupling happens harness racing will slowly disappear
it’s already spitting up blood ...handle is not going to suddenly return
handle means nothing you are still an idiot
now please stop wasting our time
-
You both are right...TODAY handle is pretty much meaningless (besides showing the general apathy for harness racing).
In the near future after decoupling finally takes place, handle will matter (as it should).
Uh, not quite
he is wrong thinking fans and what they bet mean anything when the industry is funded by gaming
don’t de a dope like him and say he is right
