Isn’t it funny how the other Burke is leading trainer in the country. He must be a genius also.   Maybe if Dr. bokman wasn’t juicing all the horses up they wouldn’t be. But as long as bokman is there porky pig could be down as trainer.  And porky pig would be leading trainer in country. Let’s put these vets in prison where they belong!!

Ramnap:
Was Dr. Bokman at nfld in the late 80's when Mickey sr started lighting up his pair of 3 claimers? I don't think so but I like your thought process and know most vets own horses or parts of horses then race against their clients. Probably not a good way to prevent corruption.

Grandstand Handicapper:
When Mickey (Sr.) first started, in the early 80's, he was a part-time trainer and had another job. For some reason I am thinking it was something in the auto industry I think. When he went full-time, at some point he became a quasi-private trainer for George Leon (at the Meadows, in the late 80's). He was racing at the Meadows, occasionally in OH, and he was a high-percentage trainer then. After a falling out with George, he started training for himself, had an owner or two, and was still a high-percentage trainer at the Meadows. He first appeared at the Meadowlands in the late 80's, early 90's, with a couple of horses and did well. Sold a few, bought a few more down, etc. He kept a small stable at the Meadows that grew over time, and a few at the Meadowlands as well. That was the beginning of when he got on a real roll. Ronnie was working for him and so was Mickey Jr, but it was Mickey Sr. who had his name in the program at first. Bokman was based in NJ back then. I have no idea about the Bokman connection or rumors.

Just have a sit down with Mr. Gural and say you're going through a tough time. No problem, just put your brother down.  ngc3

The whole "stable" and "trainer" scenario has been going on for 60 years. At some point, Billy Haughton put Apples name in the program, Ben Steall, Don Miller, Tommy, and so on. Some tracks had rules about this. Back in the heyday of the Meadowlands, Ray Remmen, a true Hall of Famer, and one of the most respected men in the business, put down "Stable: Ray Remmen/Trainer: Larry Remmen." Was his motivation to "cheat"??? No. But, if they had a positive test, which they had on a very rare occasion, Larry would take the days, Ray would continue to train and drive, and life would go on. Jimmy Doherty did it, Ben Webster, Mike Gagliardi, and so on. Even at the beginning, when John Campbell and Bill O'Donnell had a stable, they both put down second trainers after a while. But we couldn't be talking about anything further from cheating when you are talking about someone like Ray Remmen.

Take it to the extreme, and this is what Burke is able to do today.
