No Sports Betting at New York Racetracks
« on: January 29, 2019, 07:45:32 AM »
NYS Gaming commission rolled out it's plan for sports wagering in NY. It follows the current law, casinos only. It will be at least 2 years before the law can be modified to include other venues such as OTB's and racetracks.

So they can knock the racinos off before ever passing the law for them to have it. The state wants it all!

Why would horsemen and track owners deserve any of it?

The state is all about the revenue. It recently floated the idea to OTBs that may want to give up taking horse action if, you keep losing money. At the same time, the shake -up at NYRA and the nod to expand NYRA bets, give you all you need to know, when quantifying it's direction and intentions.

I don`t blame them for pulling the pin on racing. Long overdue. Why the fuck should should horsemen be allowed to make money off of using class 1 narcotics? It`s a fucking joke really.

I don't think 5% return on sports wagering translates to "massive profits".

No. It prolly will not be a windfall. But, the state is doing what it can to make the casinos perform at the level they budgeted for.

So, sports betting in New York has cleared the last hoop. The up-state casinos will all be taking sports wagers before the NFL season gets under way. The Legislature will prolly find a way to skirt the state constitution by defining where a bet is bet. The law states all bets must be placed at a casino. So, if you send a signal from your phone at your desk in Flushing , Queens to the server at the Rivers Casino in Schenectady, Is you bet palved in Flushing or Schenectady?
Kind of like the same BS they ran by the courts in 2001 when they legalized slots without a referendum by claiming all the spins were sent to servers in Schenectady servers tio the Lottery Commission and were considered "vidio lotteries", not slot machines .
There is no reason they can't pull of the same BS and have internet wagering soon.

No, they are not. But, they are doing ok. Actually performing better than maybe all others.
My fear is the Legislature will find a way to make on line wagering legal. Great for sports bettors. But, I am convinced it will render all horse racing irrelevant. There is way to many options for action now.
