I'm trying to figure out if you have to be a member of the usta to race horses or not? I pay my dues diligently every year, yet after searching I see a lot do not, including many big names ( i.e rene allard since 2014). If they don't need to be a member with all the tracks he races at with no problems, why should I or anyone else for that matter join ?? seems like a waste of money if not mandatory?

allard has a canadian license so no need for usta they are recipacle same when usta members race in canada dont need to join stanardbred canada

That's true, but even at that, theres is a list of people who aren't members, some for a very long time

When I used to own horses I did the same I just paid my dues and wondered what good is it. I just remember that if you aren’t a member and try to claim a horse they could deny the claim.

It’s up to the individual state

Not the track?
Pompano says in the rules you need to but
I highly doubt they even check or know

Doesn’t the state racing commission tell the track what to do?
