The story cites an interesting poll that Obama outpolls R team congress members on national security. This should be troubling for the R team as Obama in reality has done little about terror, but the R team has done even less. However the R team outpolls the D team in national security over all.

One topic elections, like the presidential one from 2008, are rare. In that election it was all about no more Bush. The R team better get cracking on a myriad of issues not just the anti-Obama bandwagon.
Jane Harman, one of the biggest gun grabbers in the senate does have a nerve coming across as an expert on terror:

Horse plop Horsemen/women I have a very fast, super gaited horse that runs in in the turns TERRIBLE> Have extinguished all possible soundness issues, via xray, US and nuclear scan. Teeth done, on Gastrogard, treated for EPM,checked for Lymes disease, blood work perfect, knees done, feet blocked, has pretty bad sheared heels when he came so we have bars on him, which he handles fine. He does not interfere anywhere. Wears open bridle with a murphy inside, tight sharp roller burr inside with a line burr, turned up shadowroll, overcheck bit, regular driving bit. Can't tie his tongue Can't hold him with a straight bar bit or a steering bar. When he gets on the track to train he starts pulling and getting hot, so sidelineing, or italian driving bits are of no use. I think this is all in his head. He is wicked fast, just trained in 57 and he could not blow out a match. He is ready to qualify but I would like to be able to steer him in the turns and not lose momentum. He is great in the straightaways.. Everything seemed to points to his knees, but we did them and the fluid looked great and it made no difference. Seems the more equipent you put on him the madder he gets. He is not sulky or sour and can pace a quarter in 26 seconds, easy. Next call will be the horse psychic.

Any or all suggestions welcome!! Thanks!!!

Why can't each track have up to a 40-50 table elegant card room ? The games spread would be depending on the local preference. In smaller towns, lower limit holdem, 7 card stud, and lower buy-in tournaments could be held. In major metropolitan areas, bigger cash games could easily be spread. Maywood, Balmoral, and Hawthorne would host a slew of players daily. Even though hold from these games is nowhere near what a one-armed bandit can extract from a blue haired old lady, card games (run by the track and set in a comfortable, well lit, well appointed area) would be a precurser to...expansion. If 21 is truly a game of skill, then add it to the mix down the road.

The thing that bothers me most about slots is it adds NO new blood to the horseplaying - NONE ! Cards and other sports would add, though in no way am I advocating sports betting at the tracks - yet. They would have to prove themselves as excellent hosts in both racing, frontside to back, then as hosts in their expanded card operations. Then maybe they could tackle their legislators and seek sports wagering, again years down the road. Slots take and take and give very little. Parimutuel wagering redistributes handle, less the house takeout.

By Teri Banas / The Flint Journal
March 08, 2010, 11:11PM
SWARTZ CREEK, Michigan -- In racing terms, some might call it a long-shot.

But a new initiative that would clear the way for casino gambling at horse-racing tracks like Sports Creek Raceway, proponents say, would create a jackpot of new dollars for cash-straped Swartz Creek dealing with falling property values and declining tax revenues.

Several city officials said Monday they’d welcome casino-style gambling at Sports Creek Raceway for the prospect of needed, new money to operate city services.

The old fears that gambling would herald prostitution and the demise of Swartz Creek morality never materialized when the track opened three decades ago, some added.

“Anything that brings in revenues to the city is a plus,” said council member Betty Binder. “With General Motors taking away a lot of their revenues (in a property tax appeal), what else do we have?”

“I think it would be very beneficial,” said Curtis Porath, after Monday’s council meeting. “But I’m not really a betting person.”

The group, Hazel Park-based “Racing to Save Michigan,” has proposed that the state authorize up to eight new casinos, five in horse-racing tracks.

It is one of two competing proposals, recently cleared by the state Board of Canvassers, to qualify for the November ballot if organizers can collect 380,000 signatures by July. The other, developed by the “Michigan Is Yours” group, would put casinos in several cities -- including neighboring Flint.

With dueling proposals, City Manager Paul Bueche questioned whether both would make it to the November finish line. Furthermore, opposition from Detroit-based casino interests and those operated by Native American tribes is certain to mount as it did in 2004 when a similar measure was defeated, he said.

Overall, success at the ballot box would be “enormously difficult,” he predicted.

And as for the idea of landing two casinos down I-69 from one another? “Two casinos in this area would be ridiculous. But I’ll keep you posted,” he told the Council.

In an “impact study” put forth by “Racing to Save Michigan,” cities with horse-racing tracks like Swartz Creek could earn $1.4 million a year in new tax dollars should the casino wager pay off. Today, the track brings in about $100,000 a year.

Bueche is skeptical, though, of any early claims, he said. According to the proposal, a host city could get 2 percent of casino revenues; the larger share, 75 percent, would be captured by the state. The county’s share would be 3 percent.

“It’s awfully premature to say (what the city could reap), not knowing what the law with be,” Bueche said.

What is known is that horse racing is a struggling industry. And the pay-off to towns like Swartz Creek has been declining.

The local racetrack no longer attracts up to 6,000 people on a good night, said Bueche, who spent 10 years as a police officer assigned there. At its peak, the track generated approximately $425,000 a year for the city, he added.

“Competition with casino-style gambling has taken a big bite out of that,” he said of horse-racing revenues. “I believe that industry is headed to the graveyard unless something significant changes.”

Freddyblu22 and http://www.hometrackadvantage.com are pleased to announce tomorrow is $1 day - meaning players who want Freddyblu22's Spot Plays through HTA pay only $1 for them. See Freddyblu22's ad on the Horseplop homepage as a portal or type http://www.hometrackadvantage.com into your address bar. $10K TRIs don't grow on trees but Freddyblu22 had a TBX (just missed giving it out straight as an arrow !) in his Spot Plays last week so investing that McDoule money you've got stashed in your sock for emergencies might be the best idea you've had in a while - LOL. Good Luck all horseplayers !

I wish they would stop the silly 0 min to post nonsense for 8 extra minutes but I can't see them stopping that annoying business practice in light of the handles of late so we might be stuck with it. Good Luck everyone !
